Post subject:  Schrodinger's Cat and Approaching Women

Here's a little fun video of the show Silicon Valley explaining Schrodinger's Cat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSzGJv4_q54

If you can't watch the video. Basically, Schrodinger's Cat is an Austrian Thought experiment designed to explain quantum states. It's a hypothetical experiment where you put a cat in a box with poisoned food. There's a 50/50 chance the cat eats the poisoned food. There's no way of knowing whether or not the cat ate the poisoned food and died. The only way to know is to open the box. If you open the box and the cat is dead, you've effectively killed the cat. So while the cat is in the box, the cat exists in both states, it is both alive and dead.

This might be a little far-fetched but I thought it would be cool for discussions sake to throw that out there. Similar to how the cat exists in both states and you would be afraid, especially if you had some attachment to the cat, to open the box and find out whether or not the cat is dead. You could effectively bring this thought experiment to other avenues of life. Such as approaching a woman or asking her out.

For example, you see a gorgeous woman in the mall. If you don't approach, she exists in both states, she is both attracted to you and not attracted to you. Only if you approach, opening the box, can you confirm whether or not she is or isn't attracted to you. Now, obviously, in approaching there are other variables at play. Your approach can swing the odds from 50/50 one way. For the purpose of this discussion, taking out your physical attractiveness, your confidence, your approach, the girls availability.. there really is only two outcomes, she is attracted and will accept your offer or she won't.

Perhaps the difficulty in approaching lies in the same difficulty one would have to opening the box and finding out the state of the cat. If you don't approach the beautiful woman, she is both attracted to you and not attracted. By not approaching, you've basically kept the possibility of her being attracted to you alive. You have also kept the possibility of her NOT being attracted to you alive. I think on some level, especially the new guys, or the shy guys, they would rather live in the reality where it is still a possibility rather than finding out for sure. Thus, the mental block comes when attempting day game or night game, or asking a woman out they are interested in. It becomes definitive. Luckily, this website and this community exists to attempt to swing the scales further in our favor than the 50/50 theoretical realm that Schrodinger's Cat implies.

Question is.. are you brave enough to open the box and find out for sure? Or will you prefer to exist in both states to all the girls you see or are interested in.. both attractive and not attractive to her?

You do right by your name, I'll give you that.

I like the analogy, it's quite smart. But that 50/50 theoretical realm doesn't really exist. If you don't take a shot, you miss. If you do, you might hit your target.

The cat in the box is different, because there's no real time constraint. You can open it at any given moment. The outcome of "never finding out" is not a part that equation.

Actually that video is bullshit. Don't talk about this if she's actually smart.

The whole point about the Schrodinger's Cat thought experiment is that the cat's state depends on a special type of particle which could go into something called a "quantum superposition", which some view as creating many possible worlds. Also, observing a particle in a state of superposition does not cause it to assume one of the states - this is a widespread misconception, the universe doesn't care about whether a human is looking at it or not. Every time I see someone apply "quantum mechanics" to life, it's BS and they're doing it to pretend they're very smart.

Viewing uncertainty as several possible worlds is a very cool useful way to imagine things - however thinking that it's actually true is just daft.

Didn't watch the video. I mean poets' analogy was smart.

Oops, my bad. What I wrote isn't meant to be received personally.

Very, very bad diplomacy on my part.

Yeah, if the content of the video is incorrect then I guess it does kind of compromise the integrity of the thought.

Though, I do still think the logic involved makes sense to me. Sometimes not finding out keeps the fantasy alive.

You're right in that, you've got to take the shot. If you don't take the shot, only the fantasy exists, and the reality is, attracted or not, you aren't going to get with her.
