i only open her car door if her door is facing us when its parked, i wont make the extra effort to go around the car to make sure she gets in first |

I would'nt, i mean i dont do this. She's not the queen of england, let her open it herself, after all she's human like the rest of us. I believe its ok it hold doors open for them but not going out of my to open car doors for them just to be a gentleman. |

From a girls perspective . . . If your momma raised you right, you should ALWAYS open the car door or building door, you should pull out her seat to let her sit down and help her slide it to the table. It's actions like that that catches my attention, because not very many guys do that any more. When ever I see that in a restaurant or out in public . . . I think "WOW!" As they say "chilvery is dead". Yeah, it's because guys like you killed it. Bring it back and actually IMPRESS the chick! ~Cali |

Yes, this is a new generation. I understand that. And, yes, I do think my parents blow . . . though not all do. I get along with my husbands parents just fine and so does he. AND . . . L.A. Tripp and I have 6 boys between the both of us and I hope to teach them to respect others including women! I'm hoping that we don't "blow" as parents. LOL! Yes, I understand as well that women are capable of doing things themselves. That's why women faught to have equal rights. Yeah, Tripp doesn't always open the car door for me or do the whole chair thing. But every so often he does and it REALLY throws me off guard! LOL! Ok, maybe I came off a little strong on that last post, but it's simple things like that that guys USED to do quite often that impresses the girls now-a-days. It really makes me wonder if kids today even know what the meaning of chilvary is??? ~Cali |

Open it. Don't make an ass of yourself doing it, but it's good if you do. I did it for my ex and she said that's the kind of stuff that made her really like me in the beginning. An example, relating to what Cali was saying about parenting... I work above the navy memorial, and as I was getting on the elevator there was a navy officer, his wife, and his two boys. The boys went to get on the elevator before me and their mother, and their dad was like "boyyyyys" and they stopped and let us on. And then when we went to get off, one of them tried to get off before us girls and the dad was like "Kevin!" and the little boy waited. Personally, I thought this was the cutest thing ever, and had pretty good faith that these boys would not grow up to be assholes. It also made me feel kind of special. Girls generally like to feel special. |

so what you have to do is not make it look like your going out of your way to open the car door, just make it flow and seem natural. and i hate to argue this point but it must be said, sure chivalry might be dead but is it dead for a reason? could it be that the evolution of dating has weeded it out because it doesn't pay? now i must say that don't really feel that way and i do open/hold doors, do the chair thing, and give up my jacket when its cold. and i only stated said point because somebody had to. the reasons i do these things is because it makes me feel good about being nice to her(or then because i hold doors for everyone) just like i pay for dinner, but if its expected then i truly dislike it... |
