| Post subject: | My dad's trying to hook me up! |
So out of no where my dad tries to hook me up with a girl who's mom he works with. To me this is a serious DLV. He's already asked her for contact info and it's sitting right in from of me Myspace and all Even though I feel like I've already DLV by my dad doing this, I feel like it could go both ways I could use him as a wing, omg can't believe I said that lol. I'm trying to think of a way to play off the fact that my dad set this up. should I bring up the fact that our parents hooked us up C/F and change subject? Anymore suggestions? Is Myspace contact a bad idea for first contact? that's the best I could think of right now. It's actually been a day since I got this info and I need to think of something. |

For one, thank your dad...yes im serious. Then tell him never to do it again. Tell him you apreciate the thought, but it makes you uncomfortable and you feel like it belittles you. (insert own feelings...) Secondly, give your father some credit and assume that hes at work DHV'ing you by talking about you...maybe this women heard some cool stuff about you and told your dad that her daughter is single. Call the girl, maybe in a day or 2, and crack a joke about it. "Hey, this is (insert your name), my father works with your mother, does your mother plan all your interactions?" (have to laff). or "...does your mother try to set you up with people on a regualr basis." (have to say same as other, laffing). From there just go into an opinion opener, a DHV story about your father maybe (if you get along with him, family values is DHV). Tell her you cant talk long you promised to call (insert girls name here, preferably a real friend you have that is female). If she says something like "ok ill let you go then." tell her, "Hey, i didnt say i had to right this moment, she can wait im talking to you right now...i just cant let you keep me on the phone forever" (finish the last part C&F with a chuckle) Talk as long as you feel its comfortable and you guys have things to discuss. If you have, or can create, any kind of connection you guys should have plenty to talk about. Just remeber that for a while, 90% of the convo is in your hands. Follow a framework for PU, stick to what works for you, control the frame and when you guys are done say good bye and thats it. If you think it is apropriate, ie you guys spent a long time on the phone and made a good connection, invite her out with you and some friends. If not maybe you need another phone convo to create that kind of comfort. Hope this helps, good luck. |

thanks for the advice. I've told my dad not to do this for years but that was before PUA. I did try calling and the phone number doesn't work so either I meet her in person or try for Myspace. There could be a chance that if I go down to where they work I could bumb into her (small chance and I'd like that better) but I think I might be using Myspace instead. |

Go for the myspace, meeting people at work isn't a good idea unless they are getting off of work. |

I dunno, just seems so...awkward. If you two don't hit it off, eject and tell your dad that you appreciate his help but because he got involved it got weird and didn't work out. If you then find out your dad's banging her, feel free to leave a suicide note. |
