You (to girl): I think your aim was off with the blowdryer this morning... OTHER PERSON: Geez, man, that was mean. You: ________________ Fill in the blank. In my inexperience it would seem that you're boxed into either withdrawing the comment or pushing it forward and going from a playful jab to a real jerk. |

Try making negs that aren't flat out insults. Try to be more subtle, think left handed compliment, and smile when you deliver it. That should keep this situation from ever happening. As for how to respond to that....I have no idea |

Assuming the person calling you mean is a friend of the person you negged... YOU: "No, not being real with your friends is mean." Then just go on with the set. Also tone is very important here, was it an angry protect-my-friend type of statement, or was it im kinda laffing at my friend right now but should-probably-stand-up-4-them type of tonality. If angry best thing do do is apologize. YOU: "O i wasnt trying to be mean, i was just kidding around. Im sorry really, you just seemed like youd have a good sense of humor." Hope this helps EDIT** Quote: Try making negs that aren't flat out insults. Try to be more subtle, think left handed compliment, and smile when you deliver it. i agree with this too, if you have used this neg before and its getting the same reactions, try something less direct.

Even if you say something in a flirtacious/joking way, it can come off as being insulting (trust me I have done it). Gauge reaction, than either bust, go c&f, or if necessary apologize. If she is offended, STOP THE BLEEDING. Walk away and recalibrate. If such a thing happens, try opening a set with worse looking girl just to build your confidence back. |

That is definitely something you can recover from. Lol. "I think you were a little off with your blow dryer this morning" non-target: wow, your an asshole you: "actually, I would call myself more of a perfectionist. I would have done something a little different with hair like that. then if you are at the right stage, you could take her hair and put it up in the air or do something funny like that or you could continue on and say "but I am not gay, and I'm not a stylist. So maybe you're right...maybe I shouldn't critique on something I don't have. Lets get into those shoes then, shall we? *with a gay tone insert big smile and fake hand flair* |

That is some really helpful advice... I truly love the Hair Gay/Stylist...Not only do you get a postive smile/joke reaciton but you can also go into Kino by getting close and actually playing with the hair... Nice all the way around! |

No man, not over the top, and it would work for some guys. Personally, the other response fits my personality better. Tell you what though . . . I asked a female perspective on this question, and was told that that particular response puts you in the stereotype of sounding gay, mainly because of the "styling the hair" issue. Now, if that doesn't bother you, then go for it. |
