| Post subject: | After the Opener |
I'll go up to a girl or a group of them and say an opener and i'll get two reactions. Either fck-off or continue. I have a problem with both: How do you break through the fck-off response? And when ever i try to continue it never comes out right and i dont know where to go. Do i jump into a story, ask about her, or do a routine? Whatever i say comes out awkward or weird and then I get the fck-off look and I walk away. Example: Last friday a buddy won a raffle at a bar and one of the prizes he got was a little frisbee. We went to another bar and I ended up with the frisbee. I walked up to a group of 4 girls and 1 guy. (I didnt realize the guy was in the group) My target had been looking at me all night. Omega: Hey, some friends and I are going to get a game of ultimate frisbee going. You want in? (I toss the frisbee to the target and she drops it) Omega: We'll your not on my team. HB's: Where are you guys playing? Omega: In the bar (with a cocky smile) HB's: We dont think so... Than one of them grabbed the guy friend to start talking to him. I took this as a hint to go away. The guy said something to me but i forget what. I brushed him off and walked away. It seemed like the girls wanted nothing to do with me, but my target continued to look at me throughout the night and I was to much of a wuss to re-approach. What do you guys think? |

Time constraint is what I would use to break the fuck off. Start with something interesting like a question they will have to think about. Try to be loud and firm in stance and voice. Thats what I did I had the same problem. |

If you're getting a 'fuck off' response, your openers are coming off as extremely fake. Also, openers should not really be questions that could be responded to in 1 word. The bad thing about your opener is that it could be answered with a 1 word 'no' and you really have no reason to stick around after. Your neg was alright, at least. And yes, false time constraints help as well. You should really try to hook them with the first few words. For your question about what to do after the opener hooks - Really, read anything about the Mystery Method. I can tell from your post you have done very little reading. It tells you all about going from the opener(A1) and what to do after. |

people put too much stock in material and techniques. u want girls interested? then be interesting maybe its easier said then done. i like the ultimate frisbe idea but spice it up a little. dont say hay wanna play ultimate frisbee. even something as simple as "hey me and my friends wanna get an ultimate frisbee game goin in here, uv been planted here a while, where do u think the best place in here would be to do that?" "why there?" "have u guys ever played before" "u guys can play if you make it thru try outs" "nope ur cut" etc... |

I am gonna do some more reading. I am re-reading The Game and taking notes, thats why i havnt started reading anything else. Here is another similar scenario that happened on friday night. I saw a group of three girls and i can tell already that one is going to be a big obstacle. I approah the main obstacle and say Omega: "Can I get your opinion on something?" She automatically calls me out and says Obstacle:"is that supposed to be a line?" Omega: "No. I am with a bunch of guys and wanted a female perspective on whether or not I should go on a blind date my sister set me up on?" I work the opener a little more asking questions about what i should do etc... and i can tell the big obstacle wants nothing to do with me. I then go back to AFC mode and start asking about where they are from and sh*t. I barley talk to my target and realize its a lost cause and walk away. Later on I am standing next to my target at the bar and made a comment to her and thats it. |

an opener is basically a conversation initiater, it shouldn't get a fuck off unless the person is like, not in the mood. Do the opener and continue with a story or something. The story can be totally unlelated to the opener, as long as you give a decent transition. Anyway, don't put too much value on the opener. |

I think the opener was quite good. But one always have to think were it may take you. You could have guessed that the girls were not open to play frisbee in the club so you could have had a plan b and shift to that. And always when you leave the group under circumstances like that, do it in a positive way, not like they burshed you away, because then you can approach your target later. |
