| Post subject: | How to interrupt conversation of a group of people? |
Hi. I am a new comer of a particular group. People there except me are already close. They often talks about topics of which I am not very familiar with. Therefore, I seem to be quite quiet to them. And also, my first impression in their mind is shaped into a serious person, and are not playful at all. How to reverse the situation? I decide to tell them later, that I just broke up with my gf met in the high school, so that I have an account for my dullness at the beginning. Does it work? |

Don't bother with excuses. Just start talking more. If you don't know much about a particular topic they are talking about, at least pretend to be interested and ask questions about it. The more you engage in conversations with these people, the better. Don't forget to smile |

You just have to show them you're genuinely interested. Tell them, "Hey, I don't really know what that is, can you explain it?" And then subtly transition the conversation to something you are familiar with by saying, "Oh, I get it, that's a lot like ______". If you're enthusiastic enough, people will start asking you about _____. Pretty easy, unless you don't have a lot of interests... |
