I just have a simple question. I was talking to this girl on IM, when randomly she asks me if I know some guy. I respond by saying yes, and she tells me that she thinks he is really hot and continues bragging about the guy. What do I do if I'm in this situation, and how can I respond?

Oh this one is quite easy if you get told it face to face and not online as you can get the tone and body language right. I have responded by basically agreeing with her, then exaggerated the man's ideals and finished off by saying she'd better marry him and have kids. Told right with humour, they will understand you're not phazed by it. Just use a boyfriend destroyer. Online will be harder to do because humour sometimes is hard to pull off. I have done it online and it worked a treat.

Don't venture into the What If land out of insecurity. If it's to be prepared it depends on what she writes. IMHO if she comes back with the same sort of thing that she wants to be with him. I'd move on. You could just reply with an outrageous sexual suggestion. It's for you to decide ,measure up how much time and energy you are placing on her with it going nowhere.

Either she's into you or she's not. She could be saying this as a shit test to see how you will react or she could be saying it because she wants to display that she's not attracted to you. I'd just say "cool" or "yep" and then continue with whatever conversation we were having before this other guy was brought up. If she let's it go, you've passed the test. If she keeps going on and on about him then she lacks conversational skills or she's really trying to push you away...either way, I'd next her at that point.
