| Post subject: | What Makes A Party Great? |
Hey I’m a freshman in college who commutes so I’m planning to throw some sick parties soon at my house with all my friends from college. I would also like to throw some theme parties like bonfire's or bbq's. My question is though other than alcohol since everyone my age loves to drink what makes a party great. I mean I would just like people’s opinions on what they think or maybe offer me some tips. |

Have some alright music playing, stuff people can dance to or just chill listening to. Also I feel it helps if everyone will have a few mutual friends so they can be like I know so and so. Just bring a bunch of people, music and drinks, hide those valuables and have places to sit. Try to have a decent guy:girl ratio too many dudes is no fun for anyone. |

Well here is a great idea, a special one off. Put a UV light in every party room, give everyone who is coming a small bit of UV sensitive paint the day before the party. Get them to paint themselves and their friends, then at the party, about half way through, switch from normal lights to UV to see everyone's paints!! |

So, for the last two years, I went to the Niagara Culinary Institute, and I got to know a fair amount of chefs/students. One weekend(first year), a bunch of us scheme up a way to throw the most ridiculous party of the year. So, we get to stuff to bring, and it doesn't go well, "so what about a theme party?" at first, all of us are dissmissive of the idea, but then we all get a little bit high, and the ideas start to get ridiculous. For example, the idea of a Medieval Times party came up, tons of ale, cook up a chicken or two, bicycle jousting, someone dressing up as a dragon. Unfortunately, this never happened (I know, right?) Eventually we decided on a pimp-juice party. No beer, just liquor, champagne, and wine. Everyone had to bring 'pimp-cups' to drink out of (from fake tinfoil ones, to vases, to a 4 foot high champagne flute). Everyone also had to dress like a pimp. And just to set it off just a bit further, some of the more ambitious cooks set up a giant platter of awesome food, complete with chocolate fountain and fresh fruit. The turnout was amazing, so much so that we threw another one, with even more people, gimmicks, and shenanigans. The key to a good party isn't just liquor, men and women, and music. You need to offer something that everyone isn't offering. (and it's college, you can get all 4 of those things anywhere really). And theme parties are a great way to bring that in. |

I agree with a themed party, however I wouldn't suggest it for the first one. You first need to gauge how many people are going to show up. Sure, you can invite 500 via Facebook, but they all aren't going to show. Once you get this done, start thinking of good themes. A few I have done... -Cookout/BBQ/Bonfire -Highlighter party (with black lights) -ABC party (anything but clothes) -Golf Pros and Tennis Hoes -Black and White And of course, holiday parties are fun. I've hosted some decent halloween parties, pre-Thanksgiving parties (Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, for some reason its a big night to go out), New Years, St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day, 4th of July, etc... Also, I wouldn't get kegs. They are a waste of your own money, people are already using your house to party you don't need to pay for their beer as well... Make sure you have a good playlist going, something everyone will like. I have lived in four different places since I've moved out of my parents house, and the cops have come to three of them because of parties (we just moved into the fourth). The first time I was living in an apartment and a fight broke out in the hallway. The second time was because there were kids standing outside and the neighbors thought it was a drug deal (?). The third time it was because some idiots threw beer bottles in the road outside our house. However, the cops did virtually nothing. But regardless, know who is coming to your parties. You don't want some asshats showing up and ruining the night. Here are some pics that I found on Facebook from my houses... have a BIG ASS BOWL of hawaiian punch....I'm not kidding. also have a BIG ASS BOWL of pot. Or as a joke, make pot brownies and enjoy the hilarity XD. No, really, just make it a fun relaxing SPAM for everyone. Don't provide everything though, make people bring their own shit to contribute. Have some video games up and going or something, make sure people don't shit or piss on the toilet too. |
