i was at a skating rink with my female best friend and there was a 2 set HB8's checking me out the whole night (i do have some nice rollerskating skills and good looks lol)
anyway, just as i was leaving, i went up to them and opened with

hb's: (huge smiles on face) hey
me: alright have a good evening

Short openers usually work well. Well you IOI - direct. Fair enough.
I see what you are trying to do - you are trying to make them want to hold on to you - and keep you with them. The problem with this is that not only is the opener too small to reach the social hook point - on its own that is, it has nothing unusual about it. Its very standard - you would expect any randomn guy to come up and say this. If your opener aims for them to pull you back - and thus attain the social hook point - put something in there that demonstrates induviduality and value. Reach that hook point. You need something more catchy than I wanted to meet you guys - hi. The group will just laugh as your not actually meeting them. your just saying hi.

No opener is going to push you past the hooking point unless the girls are really looking. If this was that easy everyone would do it.
