Hey guys, brand new here. Just picked up Neil Strauss's book like a week ago and, well, I've been completely seduced. I want to be a PUA. I'm 20 years old, in college, fairly good looking, not too shy but not overly confident and I think I have some real potential and I can't wait to get started.

But there's one problem that I foresee...

One of my best friends in school and my roommate is what you would call a natural. He does everything I hear people talk about: he negs a girl well, he's C&F, he DHV's without even thinking about it, emotionally connects, etc. etc. plus he's naturally good looking. He's a great friend but hard competition, especially for someone just starting out and looking to try new things. He has a girlfriend and isn't looking to pickup girls, but they are just naturally attracted to him.

So my question is, should I keep him around and maybe use him for my advantage, or try to practice in situations where he isn't around until I get better? Right now, I'm leaning towards the latter, because I just see it as unnecessary competition for a newbie to bring around.

unless you want him to take girls away from you in social situations, you are better off going it alone. you may think he is the ideal alpha male, but boy he has no clue to all the new information you're starting to gain on the PUA lifestyle. you'll look back on him pitifully once you start getting used to the game. you may keep tabs on his behavior when gaming or conversing with other women, but then launch off his abilities and hone your own. most pua's all had a friend like this at one time too.

Es Trois, what rubbish. The guy said this is one of his best friends. Do you realise you just told someone to lose a good friend for the sake of potentially making it easier to pick up?

Mate don't dump him just because he's good with girls. If he's your friend, he'll help you. If he doesn't, pull him up and tell him how it is. If need be, tell him not to out-alpha you when you're trying to pick up. Learn from him. Take what you learn in whatever you're reading and use it to evaluate how he picks up.

You have a valuable resource. Learn from him.

Why not use the natural as a wing? If he's this fun, awesome, good looking guy have him DHV you in set. Just make sure he understands that it's your set, he should DHV and take an obstacle, not your target!

I really enjoy watching naturals work, and it's important to remember that us gentlemen have the advantage of being "graded" by women on our personality more so then anything else. I agree that one day you'll look at this natural as just another afc rather then a master but all things in time :)

I'm in a similar situation. My buddy Steve I've worked with for 3 years is a great friend of mine and a complete natural. Now he's always been better at me getting girls, but for a while now I've been getting better. What I noticed is that competition is good, it makes you step up your game and improve much faster.

When he and I would first start going out he would always do better than I but the more I kept going out with him and the more I learned the better I got. If your game is weak he'll steal the girl from you and honestly that doesn't bother me all that but the turning point for me is when I stole a girl from him.

Now he's still slightly better than me, though he's 27 and I'm 21 so he's got a lot of experience on me. But every time I get better and better, and don't abandon your friends, they're far more important than any girl.

it's tricky ground with best friends and girls. let me tell you tho, in the end, take your best friend over the girl...better yet, dont even let that be a factor involved in your gamenin the first place. it will save you alot of stress down the long road that is difficult to see when you have girls distracting from 360 right now
