you have other positive aspects in your life too, you just might not realize it, such as:
you have a job
you are doing something to better yourself, instead of just sittin around and talking about it.
i too do not have a car, im the same age as you, i just learned how to drive about a year ago(its a long story)
we all have our demons, but its how we deal with them that defines who we are. you are strong, you are doing the right thing! hang in there and keep doing what you are doing, things will pick up.
tom petty said it best when he said "some days are diamonds, some days are rocks"
we all have rough days, and some times it can be discouraging, you are not alone.
congrats on the book, thats cool that you write, creativity is a gift, use it, explore all your interests.
dont worry about trying to game those who already know you, just have fun with them, they are your friends, you need your friends to stay your friends, they are your support group, game chicks you dont know, its much easier and you get to meet new people as well, besides you might find someone you really like thats better suited for a gf than one of your friends.
we all have sticking points, we just have to work them out. youll be ok man
