Today I was at work with this friend of mine, she told me that I talk to much. My main problem is being high energy and trying to talk every single minute in the interaction. I`m not a bad listener; but when it comes to pua I`ve always wondered how is supposed an interaction to happen if the conversation isn`t fluid. Therefore I end up being a stupid guy by talking and not realizing I should shut the fuck up. How do I deal with this? Honestly, I think this is by far my biggest sticking point. I`m sure that my game would lvl up if I just learn when to talk and when to shut up. Help, please! |

Insert pauses of silence in the conversation and others will attempt to fill it. Show interest in the things they talk about and get them talking about themselves or their interests. People absolutely LOVE it when others pay attention to and validate their interests/themselves. |

Yea, being a motor mouth is a problem. I'm usually fairly reserved in public, and good at guaging my dialogue with others. But I've noticed that when I get worked up and start yammering on, it can be really annoying. A friend recently told me that this guy we know talks to much, and I hadn't realized it until she said that. But yea, he'd talk a mile a minute, then you'd respond briefly, and no matter what he'd have some related string of comments based on whatever you said. He'd been there, done that, knew a better way of doing it, etc... Here's a good way to fix that. Have you noticed that when you speak you are not asking questions? You know why that is? It's because you dont' want to have to stop talking in order to listen to their response. Therefore the solution is to ask a lot of questions. When you think you may be talking to much and losing them, end your line of thought with a question and then be quiet while they start to answer. If travel is the conversation, make it something like this: "I love to travel. I've been to Europe, Japan, Jamaica, and Mexico. I've always like different cultures and seeing new places. Do you like to travel?" There's no need to describe all those countries and tell about your travel details and ambitions. Give them the basic gist of it and then give them a chance to catch up with you in the conversation. There's no point in detailing every single vacation you've ever been on, only to find out 30 mintues later that they are afraid of airplanes and never left the country. |
