Post subject:  The REAL definition of a neg...

Ok guys, I'd like to hear your definitions of what you think a neg is....I have studied mysteries stuff and even mystery (the inventor of the term himself) uses it in various contexts. So im trying to figure out if it has a fixed definition, or if its just a loosely used term...

(and yes I am going to analyse the crap out of this so if you dont like it dont read it)

The most typical defintion of a neg is that it is a 'negative compliment' as defined by mystery, and is ONLY used for opening to lower bitch sheilds, hence mainly mainly used on HB 9-10's. eg. I like the colour of your hair [the compliment]....is that your natural hair colour? [the negative side, as you know its not her natural hair colour]. This is meant to get HB 9-10 to also back down and start seeking your approval, this raises your value/status.

1. Do you agree with my definition above?

2. Does the neg have to have the compliment aspect attached to it, or can it purely be a general IOD. eg. You are so retarded. (no compliment here at all, just busting on her)..is this still a neg? (i have heard mystery referring to this as negging too! hence my confusion.)

3. Does a neg need to be something serious, or can it be in a playful/joking kinda way. This is important as there is a major difference between the two tones of course as they have completely different effects. Eg. The classic neg is 'nice nails....are they real?'..'no they're acrylic actually'...'uuh ok'..[said back to her while looking very dissappointed]. Now this neg MUST be seriously else it loses its effect, you really need to genuianely seem dissappointed that her nails are not real. This is opposed to the 'you are so retarded' neg which obviously is said in a joking way (in my opinion this is plain and simply busting on her and not negging, but mystery calls it negging!??).

Comments on the above points?

1) I agree with it
2) Try teasing, rather than negging
3) You need a half serious tone, keep them guessing if your serious or if your not.

Neg - is to use a derogatory or insulting phrase used to lower a womans self worth.

It will either put her on the spot, embarress, intrude upon or ridicule her, using sniping remarks to show u have power over her not her over u.

Neggin is the process of which we deliver said insults, the neggin can take the form of a

straight neg (insult only): "Dont tell me thats ur natural hair colour!"

mixed neg (nice + nasty): "I like the new hair colour, it jus doesnt look right on u tho"

double neg (insult+injury): "You remind me of my ex, she was bout as short(1) as you and had an annoying(2) attitude problem also"

neg challenge: "You seem bit slutty, if u behave I might let you come back to mine after this"

I think u just need to want the difference between the neg(insult), and the negging (the delivery of said insult)

I agree with your definition, as it really is the only definition. People have obscured it though...

Style has coined the term 'Pebble' which are small cocky/funny lines which make girls laugh (eg. "OMG your shoulders shake when you laugh! You're like Mutley from the Dastardly and Mutley cartoons!) These are very effective, a girl should not laugh at a neg.

thanks all for your input...

Memento would you class Styles 'pebble' throwing as teasing?

In my opinion, a cocky/funny remark which is directed at her, is 99% of the time teasing, it is of course possible to issue cocky/funny remarks which are not directed at her (making fun of something else and no her), this wouldnt be teasing but can still be seen as a "pebble".

I think Styles definition of a pebble is to be something which creates or keeps her interest. This could be in the form of teasing or not.
