How fast?

The fastest tricks are ones you get at a magic store. They are fast because everything needed to manipulate perception is included. Some of my initial tricks, i learned by buying a kid's box of tricks. Some of them are really fun and cool.

Card tricks are the next easiest to learn fast because they require only the manipulation of a stack of cards, limiting the muscle development.

Slight of hand are the slowest to learn, because you are making your hands do stuf they don't naturally do, like palming a quarter or sticking a coin on the back of your hand.

Perhaps the hardest part is to come up with an interesting story for the trick.
-"This was taught to me while travelling the ancient paths of Pango Pango." has been used...a lot.
-"I learned this from a sheik while i served in Iraq..." "My grandfather taught me this when I was eight years old, working with him at the firestation..." "I learned this from a nurse who trained me to entertain children in the burn ward at the hospital..." makes a more personal believable story. Don't worry about lying. The whole trick is deception, and all in fun. But the more truth to the story, the better you can sell it.

why do you want to learn magic tricks?
yes, mystery does it... but thats what mystery DOES. he was a magician before getting into PU. that is his personality.

now, i'm not slamming the idea of using magic in PU because some guys have a lot of success with it... but be careful. most guys end up looking like the fuckers standing on street corners and performing every time someone drops a coin in the hat.

i'll stop now before i piss some people off.

Come on! Everybody loves seeing a magic trick! You don't need to be a performing monkey. You just do one to get there focus on you. If it is really cool, they will think you are really cool.

I agree hypnosis or psych 101 would be better at first.
I have a book you should check. Don't know if its even
available anymore.
Its called: The Secret Language of Success
(Using Body Language to get What You Want)
Its by David Lewis.
This will give you the foundation to build your
best hypnosis game on. (IMHO)

Big up to you my friend. Magic is an instant reputation builder no matter what the situation is. I've been a magician for about 15 years now, and am still trying to work out the kinks of including it into my game, but man. A little goes a long way when it comes to magic. if you are looking for a good place to start, try xploremagic dot com (thye wont let me post links because I am new). It's basically a youtube for magician to share new illusions and ideas. Plus they usually teach you how it is done. Keep in mind though, this is mostly beginner stuff. The demonstrations they perform on the site are probably good for what you are using it for. if you want to get into it further, PM me and I'll give you a couple references for some knuckle-busting sleight of hand shit.

On a side note, when incorporating magic into your game, you have to make sure you are introducing it properly. Don't EVER call the illusions "tricks". ALWAYS call them demonstrations. Kids do tricks, Alpha's demostrate a refined skill (even if its easy enough for your little sister to pull it off). Also, make sure you practice the patter (what you want to say) as much as the illusion itself. make sure you are always presenting yourself as a cut above the rest. A simple coin trick can turn into the most amazing thing someone has seen if you have the presentation. You would be amazed the amount of pyschology that is included in magic.

Also, its important to have a cut off. When I'm out sarging and using magic, I limit it to 3 demostrations. Anymore than that, and you turn into a sideshow act. Always keep them wanting more. And if they want more, make them work for it.

When I first started using magic in my game, and they would ask "how did you do that" I would also get stuck on smoething C&F to say. Here's a field tested line:

"Its all in the hands. You would be amazed at what I can do with my hands." - from there you can ask to see there hands to see if they have that special something and go into a palm reading or another kino excersise. Works like a charm.

Happy sarging buddy, and good luck!

I like the "all in the hands" banter. I will try incorporating a hands compliance test as part of it.

I like coin magic, because coins are common and easy to carry.

That said, many sleights are easier to do with larger coins so if you carry a few silver dollars or 50 cent pieces it's all the more impressive. I carry nine fifty cent pieces so I can do a few bar bet puzzles as well as magic tricks. A lot of flexibility there.

And even nine 50 cent pieces takes up much less space than a deck of cards.

For the absolute best in coin magic, get the 4-DVD set Modern Coin Magic on Amazon. For the price of a couple of books on magic it includes an incredible number of palm techniques, sleights, vanishes and illusions. It also shows exactly how they are done in realtime, with multiple angles, which is difficult to get from book magic.

Find which palming techniques are easiest for you (I am not very good at classic palm, for instance, but there are plenty of others) then find a couple of tricks using that palm method and practice a lot in front of a mirror until the routine is smooth and effortless.

I've used the Bobo Pass a lot while sarging and it is a great bit. You can use it to toss a dime into an HB's hand, and then have the dime bend in her hand. Great stuff.
