Hey guys, so check this out:

I'm something of an illusionist and I got this trick called Thread. You might've seen Criss Angel do it on Mindfreak; you swallow a piece of thread and pull it out your eye. Anyways, I was wondering if this could be a good thing to do in set, or if it's too much of a "dancing monkey" routine. :?

Depends on how you pull it off.

Just going up to them and saying hey look what I can do and doing it is being a dancing monkey

Rewarding them for good behavior with it is a DHV.

If magic comes up naturally in you conversation (you plant the seed) it is fine. Seem reluctnt to show them anything and then make them jump through a hoop before doing the trick.

i find that it works better to do a really crappy magic trick that doesnt even work... and say somthing like "wow u guys suck at this"

pulling thread out of your eye (if its real or not) might get some bad reactions

From personal experience, I know ANY trick can make you dancing monkey. It really doesn't matter what the illusion is, its how you perform it. A rule I use when performing is that I NEVER call my illusions tricks. I always call them demonstrations. Kids do tricks, Alphas demostrate a refined skill.

As for the illusions itself, it could work in the right setting (ie halloween party) but I would stay away from it on a usual basis. CatTrap is right. That shit is gross!

I find the best possible illusion to use in your game is Radar Deck or Mindwave deck. this shit blows everyone's mind. For those who don't know, you basically bring out a deck of cards and show the faces to your audience. Have a few people just "think" of any card they see. You then proceed to tell them what card they are merely thinking of.

From there you can take it in any direction because I find ( and this is just me) that women will think you have built some invisible connection with them.

Happy sarging my friend, and good luck!

I'd agree with the other posters about exercising good judgment about WHEN you decide to break out your thread-in-eye performance. As for the question you actually asked, I think it's all in your mindset. If you're using the trick just to get some attention, then you're a dancing monkey. If you sincerely enjoy performance art, then it becomes an illustration of the fun guy WHO YOU REALLY ARE. Don't do it if it isn't fun for you. It'll reflect in your attitude.
