I tend to game allot of tourists, most of them being German at the moment. Its hard to build deep rapport with them as English isnt their first language meaning they dont understand some of the things. Does this happen to anyone else/ does anyone have a strategy that can work with non english speakers to build deep rapport. |

Yes, it is a problem but I tend to play the non verbal game as much as possible. Body language! Smile! Turn your head at the exact right moment... Be confident. Basically, a confident attitude and a non-needy presence is all you need. Also, to understand her through the language barriers is a good way to build comfort... |

I'm living in Germany, and I'm slooowwly getting familiar with German girls. This might be a generalization, but I find that Germans tend to be a lot more literal, so your game has to be simpler and more to the point. I've also found that physical escalation and cues (IOIs, etc.) tend to be more consistent, although German girls are much more shy about making eye contact. I've only f-closed twice here, but I've been out with a number of girls - it's a little harder to get things going at the start, but once you build up attraction and comfort, things can escalate pretty quickly. Anyhow, Ezoghoul's point about using more body language and physical cues is definitely the first step, and I've been forced to get much better at this since I've been dealing with German girls. One advantage you have is that you are the host. You're the cool local guy who can guarantee that she has a great time. You know about the culture, you know the language, and you know all the places and things she wants to experience while she's there. The better you convey this, the more she'll be drawn to you. Just do this subtly, without seeming like you're volunteering to be a tour guide; make it sound more like "I'm an Australian that does Australian stuff, and you can tag along to see what it's really like". As for building rapport, I can say from first-hand experience that a lot of pick-up techniques WON'T work - stuff will fly right over their heads, especially if you're using canned material. There's a culture gap and language gap, so if you try something like the cube, it'll take you 20 minutes just to explain what you mean, and then she still probably won't totally get it. Again, German girls are a lot more literal, so avoid getting too abstract. I find it's a lot better to ask lots of questions and find out things she's interested in, and focus the conversation on those things. If she's into surfing, diving, dancing, whatever, keep the conversation there and when possible, explain how she can enjoy some of those things in Australia. |

Interestingly, foreign nationalities can work to one's advantage. "Do you speak English?" is one of the most natural openers on the planet. Provided you don't use it in a situation where it's obvious you may have an interest (in which case they'll bullshit and say "no", and you're stuck), it works almost all the time. At least in my beginner's experience (currently living in Germany too!) - I'm only a few months into the game, so take my advice with a grain of salt. A line which I found sparked good discussion: if she asks where are you from, which they often do, ask them to guess. Tell them no-one has guessed and you'll give them a euro if they can get it right. |

I forgot one thing. If you go up to them starting in english you will establish the frame. If she is decent in english she will still feel that she is in your world and feel a bit stupid that she can not speak english. It is a great help with the framewars. |

Definitely second that. The only thing in German I might lead with first is "Sprechen Sie Englisch?", but I usually just lead in with English as long as they seem like they're fairly modern. Worst case, if she's completely hopeless in English (not likely for young German travellers) it makes for a quick & easy means to eject.

I was down in England, Brighton for a language-travel some time ago (this July). First off all - I love english. You can say cool things, that's funny, while being abstract. I don't know if you catch my drift there, but that how I feel about english. Trying to do the "who lies more" routine in Swedish sucks. To be honest, it does. They look at me with a "wtf is he doin' "-face. So, my conclusion is: Talk slow. You should, it shows alpha, but you gotta do it here so that they can comprehend you. Body Language. Use your damn hands and face. If you say "You", point at them. Don't make it too obvious, that looks stupid. It should be suddle, as you would do it w/o thinking about it. Teasing. I'm not the best Gamer in this forum, nor this world. But teasing is easy to do, since it exists in alla languages and all cultures. It's easier to do simple teasing, and simple DHV, than to do some cool super-routine. Language. I presume you're born in eng/US. This might be hard. I mean, I've learned English from school, computer games, web and Pokémon on gameboy. I know what english the schools are using, but you don't. Therefore, I can use this "school-vocabulary" in order to get my target to comprehend me. As a rule of thumb: use simple syntax, use easier synonymes, never try to get DHV by using a good vocabulary, short sentances. Just a few things from the top of my mind. |

I always find if you learn a few (basic) word in whatever language your target speaks then just dropping it into the conversation here and there always gets a laugh and makes them feel more comfortable speaking english. I've had a few girls say its cute that i mix up the languages - then K-closing is a doddle. |
