There are certain topics that are universally relateable to by everyone. Find these topics and you will have some great material for that neutral beginning part of the conversation. Here's one of my faves the cheesecake routine.
Me: Hey guys
Them: hi
Me: What's your names?
Them: *testy* I'm Felicia (I glance at her hand here, so she sticks it out kino initiated :p) other girl: I'm other girl
Me: Alright now that we are on a first name basis, I like cheesecake..
Them: ???
Me: It has that amazing grahm cracker crust and that melt in your mouth flavor, what do you like?
Them: cheesecake!
Me: Omg you can't just jack mine like that wth! :p Eh I will never get along with you guys anyways unless the toppings on your cheesecake are delicious too, what you top it with?
Them: Chocolate
Me: I don't really like chocolate as much, but you know what?
Them: ?
Me: When I put strawberries on mine it feels the same as that chocolate melting in your mouth, before you even put it in your mouth you can smell it and its so alluring you just have to put it in your mouth, and when you finally do it has that sudden burst of initial flavor its amazing.
Them: mhmmmmm
Me: What other things give you that enjoyment? (vacuum after question)
I like to just pick random things I like and talk about them. It brings positive energy to the interaction, shows something fun and interesting about me, shows that I'm not like other guys showing interest right away, and gives me a chance to find a reason to show genuine interest in them.
Pick your favorite animal, place, person, thing, and talk about it. Relate on an emotional level. Notice all the feeling words I used up there. Disagree and relate emotionally. It creates a much stronger connection than agreeing will.
