Post subject:  NEED FAST RESPONSE! First text to HB9
Hey guys,
I posted awhile ago about a girl who works in town. We seemed to click but when I asked for her number she said, "No, I'm working." So I said, Okay, guess I'll see you later, and walked away. She came in a few days ago and said, "I'm not here for a drink, I wanted to apologize to you, I don't want you think I was being mean or anything." I told her it was okay, and mentioned that I might also be creeped out by someone asking for my number after I made their drink (I work at Starbucks). She laughed, and I got her number by handing her my phone. She took my number, too.

Here's my dilemma - I want to send her a text tonight because she expressed that a text message might be the better way to communicate. I'm not sure what exactly to say, though. Should I simply say, "Hey, what's up?" Since she has my number, I don't need to say it's me. Should I try to open with something clever and funny? Any suggestions on that?

First of all. She has given you a HUGE IOI (indicator of interest) by first of all coming into your store, opening you up, offering her number. Don't ever apoligize to her. Next time id tell her 'you better be sorry, its time for you to act like a lady'

I personally wouldnt give her the typical opener "Hey whats up?" because you will probawbly get the typical "not much, u" You want to lead the conversation and steer it where you want it to go. Go to Routines > List of Text Messages Game

for some good openers. I cant post a link, apparently you cant until you post 5 times

I don't think you need to do anything crazy. She liked you enough to give you her number. She knows who you are. Any kind of basic opening is good enough.

There is a million ways to start a text conversation. Use one that's natural and fits your personality.

Yeah, there is a list of text openers on this forum, but specifically for this situation? A few points:

1) Personally, my nickname is 'C' because my name begins with that, so I tend to sign my texts with 'C.' anyway. Not vitally important but I feel that it gives the impression that I get given a lot of numbers without having the chance to give my number back.

2) You don't want to seem needy. A good method I use to not seem like I was thinking of them too much too early on is to send a group text, that way it isn't too personal. This is especially effective if you send one to someone they know and are likely or known to be with at that time.

3) And some people may disagree here, but as I normally go indirect, think about the sort of message you might send a new friend who you have no sexual interest in yet. What did you talk about when you were talking, do you have any in-jokes or anything you could bring up? Even a nickname or something that could (reasonably obviously) lead to a nickname thrown in there will help make the text more effective.
