Post subject:  How do I ask out a girl at the grocery store?

Every time that I go to the grocery store, I talk to this HB8 who's a cashier there. Never for very long, usually just a quick joke or an anecdote about my day. She's always very friendly and enthusiastic to me though. Today she started talking to me even though I wasn't in her line (I was in the line behind her, and she basically ignored her customer so that she could talk to me).

Anyway, I want to ask her out, but I have no clue how to do it in this situation. An instant date is of course out of the question, because she has to work. I don't really know her to well, either, so it's not like there's any common interest that would give us an excuse to hang out. How can I casually get her phone number?

edit: would it be a mistake to just be very direct here, and say something like, "by the way, I think you're very attractice. Want to meet for coffee tonight?"

Dude, it seems like you're doing great.

She's clearly giving you IOIs and since having a rapport building conversation while she's working is out of the question; I think being direct is the best thing you can do.

Next time you're at the store and she engages you in conversation, take a quick look at your watch and say:

"Geez I really gotta go...[insert DHV]."

and then say either:

A) "But what steps can we take to continue this conversation?" She will then give you her number or suggest that you meet up sometime.

OR

B) "How about we continue this conversation over coffee? How's tonight?"

break the rules and give her your number.
i find it very tough to get too deep into a conversation in the line with others behind and around you, not enough time and i get stared down by all and sundry when i as an older guy try it on with young HB grocery/store chicks.
ive evolved over time by either giving them my business card:
"here take this as well...text me" when you hand her the cash to pay for items.
or:
" you got a pen " she'll grab one...."here i dont need my receipt, you can have it" after writing your number on it. also write "text me" or "call me" and draw a smiley face along with your number.
works well.

Normally I just don't respond to these posts, I just read them. However, I feel that I have to say something here. Don't be direct. It's too easy for her to give you an auto-pilot response. I like the post about asking "How can we continue this conversation. That's awesome but I would take that a step further and tell her about this really awesome event that happening (party, dance, dinner, sushi restaurant, product launch party) and build it up as the thing to be at, then don't invite her. Turn back to your shopping cart or bags or whatever and take a few steps away, forgetting to grab your credit card or something and then when she calls out to you, then say, "You know what, it would be interesting if there was a trouble maker there. After all, every party needs a wildcard. Why don't you give me a call. Here's my number." then give her your business card. All the best and I would really like to know how you "make out" with this one.

When I'm gaming waitresses or cashiers, I get the receipt, look at it, and say, "There's something missing from this receipt."

She says, "What is it?"

I say "Your number."

It never fails for me.

Try that. Don't tell her she's attractive, at least until after you've F-closed her.
