Basically it threads the conversation in a new direction, without you needing to tell a story, which would be qualifying yourself to her.

It also gives you inside jokes. Monkeys, segways, and child pornography pageants are all jokes between you two now.

And clearly she liked it and wants to keep talking to you. So keep talking. Be looking for a date opportunity, but I don't think you need to rush the invite.
