I just came up with those, may or may not work:

* Hey, do you know where to find books on [whatever] (just a casual low-risk conversation opener, duh)
* Have you seen this book? It has a ridiculous cover / is ridiculously thick / whatever (as above)
* Can you help me, I'm trying to find books on penis reductions
* (walk up to someone who is quietly flicking through the shelves) Ssssshhh! (funny/angry look)

You could try to just walk up to her table and sit down in a rush and be like unpacking a book or something from your bag and be like "oh Becky, I thought you couldn't make it today... opps!!" like a case of mistaken identity, showing maybe preselection with the whole meeting another girl but then you can have a laugh about it and try another opener or whatever.. dunno, just sort of came up with it then =)

Cheers

Indirect openers are good, easy, and don't take much balls, but they can become boring because are not fun in the start (I mean boring for you if you do them many times, not for her, but hey that counts too ;) ).
Just messing with her and having fun is usually the best way to go in such places in my opinion, but it is often easier said then done.
The one on penis reductions is kinda lame and typical pick-up line, no offense please, but I wouldn't suggest using it.
But there is one more way... just being direct and try to meet her. Yes, I know, it takes balls, but it is totally worth it.

Of course, messing with people / being fun is probably the best way to go. I will try that one next time I'm in library. I actually never "opened" in library YET. It is so quiet and whispering sucks but if you talk loudly you will probably get some Ssshh's yourself too :P

I open all the time in the library at my university. I know girls have like their study areas, and usually come back to that spot. So if you have time like that to work on her, what i do is just eye contact for a day or 2, no rush(pay attention to HOW you are looking at her), eventually they get comfortable and it will seem like their is some sort of rapport already, then just sit next to her and say hi, real direct, then use an indirect opener a little later if you need to move the subject, sometimes being direct i get stuck and have to do that.

If she is not giving in and looking at u, IF the library is empty just walk up and complain," OMG in here is soo busy theres like nowhere to sit, i hope u dont mind me sitting here, its just so packed." I find this one shows confidence and starts off the conversation on a jokey vibe real fast.

I dont generally open sets who are in the corner in the mega-super-ultra quiet section if you think it s a good idea, please tell me why, i just figure thats a situation destined to fail because they are stressin.

I'm not the best but i practice in the library at least once a day during the semester . If my methods suck id love to hear some constructive criticism!

Something inteligent, because she is probably(or thinks she is)smart.Ask something about a book,or tell her something.
