Post subject:  Running Opener: What do you think of my approach?
I'm running trying to get in shape as I figure if I'm one of the few guys who can get a six pack I might as well go for it as its good peacocking and good for openers if you happen to be on a beach.

[I see girl running she is tall cute face, sexy and stressed looking]
[She notices me]
[I run past her for a bit don't show too much interest as to not DLV myself]
[As I am a bit past her]
Me: Cross country?
Her: No , maybe basketball or something.
Me: Yea your pretty tall..
Her: You ?
Me: Well no I never ran in high school or anything but last year I did a lot of competitions and stuff .. Then I got lazy :) ..

I don't remember exactly what I was saying but I inadvertadly talked about how people at the NBA were all tall even Allen Iverson who is short looking. I am average height. I didn't say anything with a lack of confidence but in retrospect it might have been wise to avoid the topic since invariably I said I am better at soocer etc.. and how I just "stick to that". She said she played soccer too..

Really it came down to not having any ideas about what to talk about.

Eventually though I tried to piece together a DHV story while I was running next to her. Somehow found out what she did (she is in med school) and I mentioned I was in grad school. In any case I tried my best to lead her and NOT DLV myself by following. She even asked me where I was going and I guessed "straight" , I was right and we kept running.

In any case my DHV story was about how I had a friend who went to med school who was smart and asked me for help with her classes (protector of women,etc..) I mentioned vaguely how we "hung out a lot" trying to imply that we had a relationship although I'm not sure if I succeeded. At some point I look at her and say that my friend looked a lot like her..

In any case eventually she says she has to veer off to go home and that maybe she'll see me again running.

What do you think? It was only 10 minutes max and I couldn't think of a way to number close that wouldn't have DLVed me or at best worked but not have led to a second day because of the girl flaking (this has happened to me).

I would have tried getting a better connection with her... if you get a good connection it's easy to lead into a natural number close. I love silly stuff, so let's say I found out she loved the Smurfs as a child. I'd tell her "you gotta gimme your number so you can come check out my Smurf collection sometime!". Assuming, of course, that you actually HAVE a collection at home.. could be a bit awkward otherwise. But even if you only have like 1 smurf you could always joke about it and tell her how you feel terrible luring a pretty girl with exaggerated smurf stories :P

Humour and playfulness comes naturally to me, so that's what I go for when gaming... I tease a lot instead of doing calculated negs... like last night when a girl I was gaming was trying to get the bartender's attention I smiled at her, parted my arms as if I was gonna give her a hug, lifted her off the floor and said something along the lines of "it's a good thing you got me on board, shorty" :P Get a girl in a playful mood while feeling safe with you and phone numbers are pretty easy :)

So, always look for things to tease or joke about, and don't take her or yourself too seriously. It sounds like you never really got the convo flowing in that fun, flirty way. A for effort though! I'm sure you'll do better next time! I know I always do :)
