Post subject:  Unintentional openers

I noticed today that I've reached new lengths. I'm unintentionally sparking conversations.

I was at the busstop with my notepad, writing down some guidelines for a story I'm working on and I was sitting next to a bunch of friends who were laughing and what-not. I happened to get stuck on a small little detail in my writing and turned to the group.

Me: "Hey! I need a name!"
Them: "Huh?" (After noticing that I was asking them)
Me: "I'm writing a story about child-soldiers in a near-future Russia. I need a name."

And it was on. I got a few suggestions along with a bunch of questions about my story and then I started to joke around with them and -booom-... I noticed that I, unintentionally, had become the center of attention and displayed a lot of high value.

One of them suddenly asked for my e-mail and they all decided to jot it down, while I got their mails in return, along with one number.

Anyone else who discovered things like this without even thinking about it?

Yup, well done. I like doing that as well. This is when I open with most confidence too. I like to walk and talk with my wing in a mall. We're chatting and whenver we discuss and anything pop ups, we use that to open.

Close to Haloween my wing was looking for a Pirate's hat. So we opened a a few sets right there in the momemt if they knew any good costume/accesory stores. We discuss music and ask if "beat is more important then lyrics" etc... your congruency CAN'T be off that way.

This is something that works really good in any typ of situation.

We had some marketing problems last year were I work and I ended up
asking random buisnessguys what they thought would be the best solution.
People love it when you ask them for advice or knowledge in a matter.

That month, we got a new customer, one of the guys I asked for advice
pulled some strings and made us a lot of money.

The unintentional openers are often the greatest because it's far more natural and comes across as such. Being yourself in those situations just exudes confidence, the "story writer" thing is a great show of creativity. (Women love creativity in all senses... think about it)

Over-all, it's a great job. I wouldn't be to stoked on the email's and stuff, but the number close is an immediate boost. Grats.

I love these situations, done things like that myself. (I also write stories and songs with my friends a few of which are signed on local labels for rap and rock.)

The musical influence and creative side is a great opener-transition, and can be used for closing. Explore it a bit more when in the field even for doing things like randomly using that "creative influence" to just pull rabbits out your spontaneous ass.
