this is a pre opener to say at a fine looking couple ;)
pua: sorry guys i need an opinion of a couple
people on the set have to respond at this pre opener and after that you know which couples are in the set...
if there aren't any couples you can say:ok what do you think about ......
so you can start whit your opener after all type of answer ;)
this is my first tecnique is called pre opener.
The end of the pre opener is elisying some information after that in a moment you can decided to change your opener ............

I may just be picky but wouldn't that be an opener?

You initiated the conversation. Did you not?

And wouldn't the idea of a pre-opener be kind of meaningless?

You open before you open?

In the wise words of George Carlin:

"Place the turkey in a pre-heated oven. It's ridiculous.
There are only two states an oven can possibly exist in.
Heated or un-heated."

Ah, the butchery of PUA terminology.

I call the pre-opener the Meet and Greet. Everything that happens from the moment you start your approach to the moment you finish saying "Hey guys, I need a female opinion on something," is pre-opener. Asking for an opinion is not an opener; it sets the opener up.

But that's just me, and it's far from mainstream. It's a sales term I've bastardized.

My pre-opener is grounding my opener. It works much better if you and a wing are talking about the topic and making it sound like there is an argument between the two of us regarding the opener and then the target happens to be there and we ask her opinion. Therefore she does not feel like she is being targeted and that at the same time we are more believable.
That is my pre-opener and as monkey said it is from "the moment you start your approach to the moment you finish saying "Hey guys,..."

Have I missed something?
Imo, the moment you start talking to the set, you have opened the set, whatever you say.
The only thing that I can think of that would classify as a 'pre-opener' would be this:

Let's pretend you are gonna open with jealous girlfriend. You and wing could stand near the target set and have a short convo about the topic, eg: 'Seriously? Does she really want him to do that? Let's find a random to ask and see what they say!'

Now, imo, that is a pre-opener, as you are making the opener that you are going to use, seem authentic. You are preparing the set. Marinating the meat so to speak.

And Krylon...
Pre-heated refers to the state of the oven for the exact time of turkey entry. So, if the cooking time for a turkey is 30 mins, you put the turkey into a previously turned off, unheated oven, then it'll take a few minutes warming the oven to the desired cooking temperature, wasting valuable cooking time! Leaving possibilities for a uncooked turkey! Now, I'm not really a fan of turkey, but IF I was, I know that I'd want a properly cooked turkey...

You are right difference...that is what I mean by grounding. Initiating the topic near the HB
