Post subject:  Storytelling and Any Canned Material

Hey guys, I've got a question for all of you about routines and in general canned material.

I am pretty much a member of the RSD camp right now, took a BC with Jlaix a month ago. The entire real social dynamics company basically tends to frown upon ANY canned stuff. Generally speaking, I agree with them.

Jlaix told me that he likes to use a mixture of both. That is to say, sometimes I find myself at a crucial point in an interaction, and I NEED to bust out something good. This is what canned material is FOR.

I find that when I am trying something new, it seemes artificial. Jeffy calls it the you-it disconnect, because you aren't having REAL rapport. As in, it SEEMS like it is canned. Do you guys have any tips for overcoming this?

My plan right now is just to keep working the small repertoire of routines that I have until I can pull them off correctly. Is there anything else I can do?

The more you practice canned material the better you will be with it. When an actor gets a script for the first time do you think he can say it like the movie gets edited to be? Hell No! He has to practice saying those lines as that character several times to get it down and to flow.

You will need to practice saying these "canned lines" you have more frequently to get them to come out smoother. This practice can be with your wings or in field.
