| Post subject: | Getting asked for a lighter |
In a club scenario, I find that girls often ask if you have a lighter - which I usually don't, as I don't smoke. This seems like the perfect opportunity to run game on her, because the hardest part is out of the way (you having to approach, which is not the case in these incidents). A few times I've negged girls when they ask to borrow a lighter, about how unhealthy it is etc. (in a joking manner of course), but I find that they usually take this often at face-value and the bitch shield comes up. So what do you guys think is the best thing to respond with when being asked this common question? |

"how did you know I leave my lighters at home? Slow down, you can't come home with me just yet.." |

Tell a smoker that smoking is bad for you is unimaginative and boring, doesn't matter if it's a joke, smokers are constantly being told that. If she seemed a bit drunk would you tell her drinking is bad for you too? Or how about a lecture on the importance of diet and exercise? She has shown interest in you by asking you for a lighter, especially if she doesn't see you smoking. You are being opened. Presumably she could have asked any number of people if all she wanted was a light. You have no reason to neg her. Just do what you would normally do after an opening. |

It's common practice for me to bring a lighter with me when I go clubbing for this exact reason. There's always girls and indeed guys who ask for a light and it's all good for social proof and eliminating nerves etc. I also admit I'm partial to the odd ciggy too depending on my mood....but yeah why not bring out a lighter as a "prop" and go from there. It also allows you to stick around the smoking area longer, an area where I have a lot of success due to the less noise and whatnot. One Love |

When she asks for a light, make her do something for you to get it. It can be a small thing, like "do a twirl for me." Or you can ask her to spread her legs.If she does that, you reward her with a light and ask her to come smoke with you. Isolate her. Bam. |

I don't smoke either, but I actually always carry a lighter with me just in case this comes up. Since girls are more timid to approach, it's a good excuse for them to do so to get to know more about you. There have been times when i've had girls approach me asking for a lighter, we'd then talk and i'd BS with them, and when it got time for them to smoke their 2nd cigarette, they'd reach in their pockets and pursues and grab their own lighter and use it, without realizing it. Seeing that makes it obvious that the girl just wanted to talk with you. Also, the lighters I take out are usually cool torch ones, or unique Zippo's, ones that can keep the conversation going and you can use as a prop or for story telling of where you got the lighter. |

I think Terryfing's advice is quite cool, however I would use something sillier such as asking her for a pose or dance move. I also think that bringing a weird/cool looking lighter can be a great prop as long as you can make up a crazy story behind where you got it wich is something someone already mentioned. Maybe also, lighting her cigg and saying some thing along the lines of "Call Me Prometheous" or whatever wich will make you look well read and interesting especially if she's of the nerdy kind.
