So basically I'm a new member at a local gym and when I first saw the fitness area I see Old men that are married, Young teens that are skinny and Young adults like "ME" either skinny or getting built. So I started to get familiar with the place and notice many women my age workout and start to look at me constantly while being a new member at the gym.

How would you open/approach in my situation?

Don't over complicate things

The gym is where alpha males congregate. They don't use canned material or complicated openers.

Approach the girl when she isn't busy and say, "my name is --- and I just joined, I think I have seen you here before, what is your name?"

Don't over complicate things.

The gym is a place for fitness.
Creativity takes time, elaboration, and the participants full attention.
Rest between usually do not last longer than a minute and it is hard to talk on a treadmill

If you want to use something creative witty and elaborate while getting your point across the best time is either after or before the workout. If you are really dedicated to that method I suppose you could properly time out going to the water fountain, locker room, etc.
