I don't know about you but I find some of the canned openers and routines that are common within community very hard to pull of in the uk because nobody would ever say stuff like that in Britain. Some of the American stuff would sound absolutely ridiculous over here and you would get very strange reactions indeed. A good example is "Dont make me come over their, ill grab you by the puppy scruff!" You would get laughed outta town if you ever said something like that where I come from....

Obviously a lot of them can be adapted to fit in with our cultural attitudes a bit more, but do any of you guys have any well practised, tried and true openers and routines that work well In the UK especially in the north of England and Scotland areas?

Yeah, you have a good question. I moved to the england about a year and a half ago from Arizona in the US. It has taken me time to get culturally acclimated to this place but after a while, my game is finally up and running again. Here are some of the ones i use:

The tiger opener: Hey! What's a better name for a tiger? Tony or Rocky? She replies and i usually follow up with "Really? Same here! My friend thought **Whatever she didnt choose** instead because he says that it should be named after rocky because of "Eye of a tiger" but i like Tony because of that funny animal from the cereal boxes**. That one usually makes it really look like an actual question because its so random and is one of my favorite indirect because its playful and creative.

The party opener (TD): "You guys look like you know how to party! Am i right?"

To be honest, i just like to use direct openers now and either strive with perfection or get blown out right there and then. I'm not a big fan of english girls, they don't get the teasing half the time and take it seriously so i just look for the ones with the sense of humour same as the american or close to it so i'm not wasting my time.

The thing is, you being an American would get away with using openers that would work in America, They would probably find what your saying strange but exotic where as if I tried it with my broad Scottish accent Id get laughed at ......Although I bet if I went to the states I would get a lot attention simply for having a Scottish accent.
