Post subject:  Approach in English or German?

So I am an American living in Germany. My German is OK, but far far from fluent. When I approach in German I sound like an idiot, even if I get the message across, there is no way I can 'speak her language' or get any of the slang that her and her GF are slinging. If I approach in English I seem to have alittle better chance as it seperates me from all the other 'Boring German Guys' (as one chic put it)
Running routines in English don't alwas come across as intended either...

What is the take of all the other ex-pats?

While I was living in Spain I had this same problem myself. I am sort of fluent, but it didn't get the jokes and the personality across. Unfortunately spaniards hardly speak any other language, so I had to up my spanish, which was a good thing in the end.
I'd say you could mix a little of both languages. Approach in english, it creates interest, but have some of the convo in german as well, it shows respect for the country and the fact you're not some dumb American who can't say a word in another language.
You will simply have to avoid word games and rely on non-verbal seduction. Maybe 60 years of challenge can help you here. If you understand enough of their dialect, you can let her talk in german, german dialects are a bitch and maybe she can make an effort to speak a more standard language.

Viel Spass ;)

I suggest you to approach girls using english language...

I use it myself despite the fact of being a half - english living for almost my entire life in Germany - Hamburg.
For me it sounds like a fake when approaching in german, I totally feel unconfident and awkward and get best results when approahing in english.

To put it in a nutshell, use the language you feel the most comfortable with.

@tony, Awesome!
However I wonder if that line is best saved for when the girls ask if I know any German. I could reply, no; but I do know one line: "Ich will dich in hintern bumsen!"
Then pretend like I have know idea what it means. Continue to prod them to tell me what it means. :D
