While it's great when you send out a message and immediately get a response with a phone number back, set up a meetup and then sleep with a girl within a day or two, you don't really learn much from that. Plus, that's generally not the way online pickups work. At least for me, anyway.

I'm a firm believer that you learn more from the failures than the successes. So here's a failed attempted myspace pickup that I had from a couple of weeks ago for us to analyze.

I thought it might be a cool idea to post the conversation one message at a time so we could discuss how I should respond before I show what I actually said. I think this could generate some interesting discussion if you guys participate. It could definitely help because a good percentage of the questions posted here are about how to handle things when a girl is either shit testing you or just not responding warmly. And believe me, there was tons of that in this conversation

So anyway, I had been experimenting with some very basic, non-attraction building AFC-type messages. This was just to see what type of responses I would get. It was a very basic "hey there" in the subject line and the body of the message was "I randomly came across your profile and thought you looked adorable, so I wanted to drop you a line and say hi. You should say hi back, I'm pretty charming. -[my name]"

This particular girl didn't respond to the opening message (not a surprise, it sucks lol), so I sent a follow up message 2 or 3 days after she read it in which I told her that she was supposed to play hard to get AFTER we started talking. To which she replied:

"yet there's a reason we haven't actually started talking."

ok, so where would you guys go from here?

I'd start off by not shooting myself in the foot on purpose...

I mean, I like a challenge, but attempting to recover from a dumb move on the internet? Nah!

go for a standard irregular comment on profile and question. If you don't ask anything there won't be a conversation.
