| Post subject: | Online Sarge Report #1 (Does it even sound right?) |
The internet doesn't count as in-field, so I decided to put the report in this section instead. This happened a few days back. I was surfing YouTube when I came across a funny enough Markiplier Vlog. When I checked the comments, there was this girl who had a very beautiful profile pic. Let's call her Emily (cause she looks awfully a lot like Emily Blunt). Instantly my goal changed from surfing funny videos to email-closing her. First thing I needed to do was to grab her attention. So, I subscribed to her. An hour later, she subscribes back to me and messages me saying, "Why did you subscribe to me?" Attention grabbed. Now, the next thing I needed to do was to depict common factors, so, instead of speaking metaphorically, I went straight on. I replied, "Because we both like this this and that that." That's it. I got no reply. She had got her answer and she was no longer interested. But, just in case, I waited. After ten extremely long minutes of impatience, I messaged her, "What's your age?" She replied after five minutes, "I'm 16. And you?" A note for you'll reading this, asking a girls name, age, occupation, etc. online or in-field, is very essential to rapport building. Never think girls mind when you ask their age. "I'm 17," I replied. I knew that I had lost her interest before by answering her question, I should have instead replied, "Try guessing." To make up for it, I instantly did an 'enviro-shift'. For all of you'll who are not in the field of psychology, this term may confuse you. It basically means changing the environment of a conversation, to increase trust and confidence. It is extremely helpful, especially in-field. I messaged her instantly, "What if I could read your mind over the internet?" This is another attention grabber, if you noticed. She replied, "Yeah! Sure! "But, for that we need to chat. Messaging won't work," I replied. This line is an 'enviro-shift' line. It states that the current environment isn't suitable for a particular task or conversation. Since chatting isn't a part of YouTube, it becomes a less suitable environment for Mind-Reading, in which she has already become interested. "So what do you suggest?" she asked. "Only one suggestion: Facebook." I replied. "So, you'll add me or I add you?" She asked. "I'll add you. I'll search for you with your e-mail." And I once again replied. "Okay then here's my e-mail:****@gmailcom" Goal Achieved. Well, I got what I aimed for guys (at least in this scenario). I hope you'll will be able to use 'enviro-shifts' in a much better way, in-field. They can be used for a wide variety of purposes; in my case, for email-closing. I may even write a complete post on it's varied uses and techniques, if you'll want. |
