That's pretty awful. You make joke that isn't really funny and then you immediately apologize about it. I would go with this, it is my go to, and almost never fails: "Hey there, I saw you rated me highly.. you have good taste I want to poke fun of the fact that she's Asian and good at math, but I'm not sure if the sarcasm will translate well for a first message... how does this sound:
