Post subject:  OKCUPID Profile Suggestions

hey I get couple of visits to my profile a week but no one ever messages me. I am putting this down to my profile pictures and my profile summary. Just wondering how I can improve it. I have submitted some photos to OKC mybestface to see which profile pictures are better.

My self-summary
Lengthy Sales Picture below, if you do not like advertising move on.

I am going into my final year at university. I am studying Computer Network Technology at UCLAN. I am pretty laid back, once I completed my degree I either want to set up my own business or work for Google.

I also plan on travelling after university, places of interest are California, Dubai, Holland, Italy and Australia.

I watch a lot of movies and am able to watch movies over and over again without being bored.

I am a major geek so I am warning you now. I have developed a popular social networking application for the iPhone for my final year project at university.

My music is varied but I like Red Hot Chili Peppers, James Blunt, Pendulum, Breaking Benjamin and ACDC. I like classical music as well which all my mates take the piss out of me for :/

I play the Guitar and Bass so if your lucky, you might get a song without the singing because Im not the best singer. I will be honest with you right there.

Not sure what I am looking for, No one night stands though please -.- not that sort of guy. Just looking for enjoyment and maybe more.

Originally I signed up to this site to do some market research for a new application I am developing but figured this may be a great way to meet new people.

If you want to know more, just ask.

Okay... First it's too boring and regular. Unless you've got some really, really great eye-candy pics you'll need to work on it.

Second... You come off too techy. I'm a Network Engineer and into tech as well. But you're gonna get labeled computer geek. That is not bad, if you can find a computer geek woman.. But they're few and far between.

The tech stuff is a good DHV, but keep it very moderate and vague. On my profile I just say C++ under languages spoken and mention I've got an Associates.

^--- Your very first line basically says, "my profile sucks, don't read it".

I'd advise browsing the forums a bit to get in touch with the social dynamics involved in online game.

Also, another thing.. Don't talk about a good sense of humor, you need to display it.

EDIT: you DLV yourself a lot as well. Don't say, "I'm a computer geek.". DHV yourself with something like, "I make all the computer geeks jealous".

That's not the best line, but better than lower your value.

One last thought.... Go over your grammar with a fine tooth comb. If you need to, get out a mid-level grammar book. Posting in forums is one thing.. But on a profile taking a half hour to to perfect grammar and punctuation is HUGE.

Most of those movies are chick-repellant. I'd just say something else.....

Good Luck! :)

Before you go any further, I would recommend really thinking over what you're interested in. The type of girl you're interested in is crucial in coming up with any online profile. If your profile is tailored to that type of individual, you'll yield better results not only with that demographic, but also with women who fall outside of what you've targeted.

I would recommend also against being apologetic (you don't MIND a geek). Turn negatives into positives: You don't mind=You LOVE geeky boys., you aren't sure what you're looking for: You're open to meeting new friends and possibly more.

Its good that you talk about your goals and aspirations, but its more powerful to talk about what you've already accomplished, than what you're trying to do.

You're doing a good job at conveying your personality, but you would do better if you reorganized your thoughts. Try to put them into four categories, and then get rid of any extraneous info.
1. Qualify the girl
2. Qualify yourself
3. What you're looking for (not what you're not looking for)
4. Where the girl fits in.

If you take these steps, you'll already be off to a good start. It is worth noting that girls typically don't send out many emails, and the ones that do send 97% of their emails to 3% of guys. Something like 53% of men never receive a single unsolicited email according to Freakonomics, so don't worry about it. What's important is your response rate.

–Get rid of the “lengthy sales pitch”. You are disqualifying yourself in your profile by saying this, and giving women permission not to read your profile.

–Way too much reference on your computer programming skills. You can mention this, but don't come off as a geek when you do it. Describe it in a way that set communicates that your successful, and passionate about what you do.

–Get rid of the part about how classical music pisses off your mates. Just talk about how much you love classical music.

–Give her the part about how you're not the best singer. Bob Dylan can't sing, but he's one of the most famous singers of all time.

–Don't say that you signed up for this site to do market research. We all know why you're on the site–to get girls.

–Don't say that you're not interested in one night stands. She'll think you're lying.

–In general, I see a list of hobbies and personality traits. But what is hanging out with you like? How are you going to give her a rush every time she sees you? What I see is a resume, when you should have a story. I would focus more on the experience that she'll have when she hangs out with you. you can talk about your music tastes, the fact that you're in college, and the fact that you major in computer science, but don't make this your focus. Link this to a broader picture of how amazing it would be for her to hang out ( and possibly hook up) with you.

Hey,

Your Profile is mostly meaningless, what matters is this - your picture and your first message to her.

It is very difficult to create a profile that will get HER to contact YOU. Even in our modern world of online dating, chicks want you to contact them first.

The interests section of your Profile is most important, especially music, chicks scan that section hard, looking for "keyword matches".

Respect,
Pierce
