| Post subject: | Less social now - Because of my girlfriend? |
Just something thats crossed my mind, thought id put it down electronically yeah, i feel as if im less social in alot of ways now. Ive been with this girl for 9 months now. Everythings smooth, nothin special to be honest. I feel as if im too comfortable right now, that ive lost all the excitement of meeting new people. First things first. I was never a really talkative guy before i get with the girl. I was more of the quiet guy who kept it cool around people. But now since i have a girlfriend, i dont make the effort in to getting to know new people. I even feel more shy around new people for some reason. It feels as if ive lost the power to maintain a flowing, interesting conversation with people, which sucks hard. What do you guys think? Id love advice on how to keep interesting conversations. I really need to get rid of this quiet cool dude attitude ive been keeping on my back. Cheers! |

If you want advice on conversations, check Juggler's stuff. Otherwise, a couple of general guidelines: 1) Talk in their interests. If you don't know 'em, find out. 2) Follow a statement+question format. 3) In that format, make sure your questions are open-ended. 4) Stop thinking. Seriously, the best way to carry on a conversation is to listen. People are so surprised to be listened to that you really connect. Actually, I should mention, another fantastic book is Dale Carnegie's, "How to Win Friends and Influence People". This is good for any social skills. |

Quick post, don't fall in that trap! If everything works out with your girlfriend, that's cool; But if it goes bad you'll maybe have to go out and meet new people, build a new social circle, ... It's really hard to do that! I'm in that position right now! Don't neglect friends and go out and meet new people! Best advice I can give you! |
