Post subject:  Hook Theory for Beginners (Conversation Tricks) - Lowlo
If you are like me and you struggle to make conversation, follow these simple tips and tricks to help you on your journey within pick up.

Okay guys, so I am still an AFC and i do admit that, and I am learning so please add to this thread with any of your ideas and lets try and actually make a full blown theory out of this.
  • 1. Make Eye Contact - This is the most important thing in talking to ANYONE, and no, I dont mean staring right at the person with your eyes wide open, but more of a gentle approach to show THAT YOU ARE LISTENING. Dont have to be excessive at all with this.

    2. Smile and ask questions - I know this is elementary but it has helped me a lot along the way. Seriously, a simple smile and a bit of feedback from you goes a long way, BE CAREFUL, do not ask super long questions, just say something like oh, (smile), how comes? or something small like that.

    The goal for me is to GET THEM TALKING, and you just sit and listen and add value as you talk.

    3. Use Hook Points - If there has been some silence or you just want INSTANT attraction/interest, say something that has an open end - a bit like this - (So what do you think about rock climbing?) It could be literally anything, the important note here is saying (what do you think), this makes it easy for them to say what it is and it isnt so intimidating. This works well for sets with 2+ people, as the other friend tends to answer and you can just focus on her while your target gets jealous.

    This is a really good tip to sue as it not only allows them to talk as much as they can or want to but you can just find another 'Hook' to cling on to and ask something else. Thinking of it as planting a seed, it grows, you ask smaller emotional response questions like why was that? , how do you feel about that? , and it grows into a plant, you then use hooks to just 'branch' of to anything. This actually works if done correctly, heres a prime example:
1 - Hey I need your opinion on something

2 - Sure what is it?

1 - My friend's birthday is coming up what kind of gift should i get him?

1 (continued) - Um I dont know what is he like?

1 - He's kind of a party animal, and loves to get drunk, haha

2 - He loves to get super wasted and stuff, you know the type right?

1 - Haha, yeah it gets messy sometimes

2 - Did you work as a bartender?, you seem to know the type (This is the HOOK POINT) (need to use cold reading here depending on the situation, to be entirely accurate)

1 - Yeah I did actually

2 - Oh okay, how was it?

She will tend to go on and on hopefully, if she feels comfortable around you
She might end up saying something like a topic, like, -

2 Continued - it was cool until it was midnight, it got too crowded and crazy then,

1 - No way, thats when the party starts for me

2 - Haha, sure , each to their own

1 - Do you prefer quiet places where you can hear yourself think? -
After cold reading, you could assume she's introverted and ask this, and she could elaborate and you could just pick out words she says and ask questions on those.

2 - Yeah I feel so much more at peace in like a hall or a library.... so on and so forth

1 - Do you read a lot? (Library Hook)

2 - Yeah I love books in general

1 - What books do you read? (Hook , again)


The point is here, actually listen to what she is saying and elaborate on things that stand out and are relevant, so
A conversation is a two way street,you both have to meet in between, its a bit like attraction as well, one can only go so far without the other moving at all.
