Post subject:  AA tips from public speaking.

I'll be taking notes and exercises directly from my notebook. If something was restated in any form, and credit was not given. Blame my professor =D

I took what I knew from my public speaking and applied it wherever possible. This is the result.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Effective speaking- Visual , eye contact, and usable info and sources ( sound familiar?)

Ineffective speaking- Long pauses, using "I think" or " I guess", no explination( of why your there , what your doing), using the words "stuff, uhh or umm"

An exercise that we did to break the "ice", This could be used anywhere, anytime. People will think you nuts, but it works.
-Pick something thats easy to say. Memorize it. What we did in the class was one by one, in front of the class recite what we memorized until we made eye contact with everyone in the room for at least two seconds. (remember this is based off of what would be good in a work environment) I choose humpty dumpty. You can walk down the street singing a song and making eye contact with everyone. - *I would like this attributed to me if reused*

Most things wont be in order. These are my scribbles..erm notes after all =D

Needs- people have three basic needs
1. physical- what you depend on, food/ water, shelter.
2. identity- based on peoples feedback-
3. social- being with other people.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is something called the "social penetration model" All pua deal with it but I dont know if it was ever given a proper name in the community. This is why im here.

Think of it as a drawing. Start making small circles while only going around the outside edge. Now you have a swirl pattern. This is the model.

The center of the model is intamacy. the outside is breadth(variety) The techniques that a pua uses is what the line going to the center of the model represents. The whole picture is the women herself. The longer you spend with her, the deeper you go. EASY!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sources of anxiety-
Trauma- having a horrible experience with the same XXXXXX before
Confusion- you dont understand what your doing or the feedback of your mark
Inexperience- lack of practice
Irrational goals- Dont expect to get an invite to the playboy mansion at 18. Build yourself up first.
Lack of preperation-
Negative self talk- remember the 3 second rule!

Reducing anxiety-
Gaining speaking experience- go out and talk. Talk to yourself in the mirror to see what you look like when you speak. Listen to funny tapes so you can see yourself laugh etc.
Prepare for whats to come
Think positive
Know the power of visualization
Remember that most nervousness isnt visual, its in your mind- Women dont see your heart race or you gut knot. Stay cool.
Dont expect perfection- No one is perfect, get over it. All you can do it prepare

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Four great things to ALWAYS do in a mishap
Breathe
pause
humor- dont be afraid to laugh at yourself
humilty -everyone makes mistakes
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Basics of speech giving. Amazing how close this is to pickup ( may or may not apply, but still useful)

Stand tall when entering
Take a deep breath
Smile
Recite first sentence from memory
give speech
recite last sentence from memory
smile take another deep breath
stand tall and exit. Dont leave with bad posture or a sulky attitude, your still being judged
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Different types of communication
Manuscript- Reading it word for word
Memorized- from memory, word for word
impromptu- on the spot, no prep
extemparaneous- May have rehersed "help" wrods that can jog your memory ( in speeches this is the style that notecards are used)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEVER!!!!
Fidget- look like you belong
Hands in pockets- what are you hiding?
Playing with something in your pocket- again hands in pockets, now its akward. What are you doing?
Lock your fingers together/clasp- subconscience is saying im unconfident and out of my comforst zone, im sealing my self off
Tapping- can you look any more nervous?
Clamp on to the counter/bar/podium- Its not going anywhere, worry about the girl
Sway- another sign of nervousness
Focus on one person- way to obvious

ALWAYS!!!!
Appear spontaneous
Gesture abuot the waist- save it for later =P
Gestures that dont distract her/audience from you.
Balance the gestures between hands
Keep you knees slightly bent- so you dont pass out
Distribute eye contact- if someone looks at you for 10 minutes while talking to the whole group...you would freak out too.

this is about all i could extract and still be semi-usefull to the community. If anyone needs to make a speech im more than happy to help. I have all kinds of abstract knowledge for public speaking.

I too took a public speaking class in college. This helped me deal very well with a mild case of social anxeity and ended up becomming one of my favorite courses in school.

Also as another note, most public speaking courses allow much more time for communicating directly with class mates, and self expression through laid back dialog between you, other students, and the instructor.

This kind of course is excellent for gaming! As an AFC i was surrounded by attractive women who where willing to speak to me, i shutter to think how id better have handled that as a PUA.

If you have the chance, take a course or 2 like this. Not only will it help with AA, communicating successfully, and EC...it will put you in a situation to game other girls while your learning it, and they will not be as critical of mistakes.

It was great because everyone was there for the same reasons. Nobody cared if you were a great speaker or could barely stand in front of the class. Its amazing to be on the same level as EVERYONE in the class. Very recomended. Just think 90 something percent of people fear public speaking over death!!!!

I just though about it. When your reading any materials. Read them outloud. Being able to speak outload was the best rehersal tool. Much like when playing sports or riding a motorcycle. You didnt start off being ale to do everything smooth. You had to learn muscle memory. In that same way the brain functions. Reading the materials you want to remember before bed is supposed to help too. Less time the brain has to forget the short term and automaticaly converts them to long term.

I'm in public speaking right now and the first day the teacher wanted us to stand up and say what we wanted from this course. I had what i was going to say: " i want to become a better sender, and give better feedback" i recited it 50 times before it was my turn...

As he called me i stood up and went fucking blank... I really hope i can overcome this, I think after you take a class like this, approaching will be nothing comparable.

Dont worry about how bad you did. In classes like that the people are so nervous themselves they dont even notice you. Just like you said you were rehearsing,so is everyone else. how many people do you remember? Thats about how many people remember your fault. Just remember to practice before bed at least the night before. Practice the day of will most likely result in freezing. If you need any help with anything, feel free to ask. That why we are ALL here =D
