| Post subject: | Trouble meeting new people because of my name |
Hey guys i'm new to the community and I wanted your help in this problem I have since I was a little kid. You see I live in Portugal but wasn't born here, I was born in another country. I have a different name than everyone here (portuguese names aren't diverse) and it's my biggest insecurity when meeting people. I was teased alot because of it and even strangers don't make the effort to pronounce properly. Thing is, my name is actually fairly easy (it's just different) to say yet when people mispronounce it, I get the same feeling that I had when I was being mocked even though I know I shouldn't get that feeling. This has been my biggest obstacle to meeting women and wanted tips from you guys to what to do if a girl is having problem pronouncing my name. |

Hi , i am also new to pua, u will come to alot of obstacles throughout your experiences but your name shouldnt be one of them > The embarassment of yoour name stems from your lack of confidence. Believe in yourself and your identity. You are actually lucky to have a different name because you have a conversation starter when they ask about your unusual name. If you still are unhappy, puas tend to make nicknames (hence mine smoothae) or just call yourself jose, the name is very common is portugal, coincidentally i m a portuguses national forca amigo |

keep your name that way and be proud of who you really are. If people ever made fun of yourself they can go FUCK themselves or tell them basically to fuck off. even though your name is different act like you don't care when people make fun you. just go out there and have fun. |

Thanks for the nice responses. The big problem about it is that I actually like myself (looks, personality) but when the ''name'' problem occurs, I easily get in a sad mood because of past experiences. I'll deffenitely try to care less but it will take some time |

Well, if it poses such a problem, can you adjust it slightly or shorten it to make it sound better? When you meet a girl, you don't have to give out the name exactly as it's written in your passport, no one is going to check! |

Just have a nickname for yourself, no big deal. I've got lots of nicknames. |

I live in the US now but am also originally from a different country (Ukraine) When I first came here, people couldn't pronounce my shorter name, and my longer name is, well, too long for regular conversation. (In Eastern Europe everyone has an official name and a shorter name that roots off of it. For example, Vladimir-->Vova) I just slightly changed my shorter name so people could pronounce it. Since you have a different problem of only having a long name, I suggest make yourself a nick name from it; sort of like Eastern Europeans do) Vladimir-->Vova Vladimir-->Vlad Vladislav-->Slava Vyachislav-->Slava Evgeniy-->Zhenya Alexander-->Sasha Alexei-->Lyosha Anatoliy-->Tolya Valeriy-->Lera etc. |

Exactly. I have the same problem when outside the country, I used to insist on my name, but it was pointless. My advice is get a short name that resembles your name, and let it be a bit international. F.E.: Matthew-Matt, Nicholas-Nick, stuff that is easy to remember.I've got lots of nicknames. Plus, you keep a little mistery for ladies. HB: Whats your name? You: You can call me Matt. And in the future, if she sticks, your name will no longer be problem. |

Use a nickname that is easier to pronounce and catchy. Although, if you do use your name think of it as a segway to a cool story of where you came from, most people worth their salt will love that you are different |
