| Post subject: | Talking under pressure |
Hi, I guess this is kind of a social anxiety. I usually have no problem expressing myself when talking to a friend 1 on 1. But when I talk to like 3 or more people, I get self-conscious and go blank frequently, and I couldn't imagine talking in an interview on the radio or something like that. Can anyone relate to this? or does anyone have some mental exercise to overcome it? thx |

I would recommend maybe trying to practice on something that will require your public speaking. either performing (if you are playing a musical instrument) or lecturing about something (even lecturing to little kids can do the job) there are actually trainers and schools especially for public speaking. just look them up on Google. If you have a sales job and a trainer that is also a very good place to cut your teeth. confidence and removal of fear effects (fear always stays, it's just the way you let it affect you that is your skill). the best way to beat something is to face it. hope this helps |

thx for the reply man, what's funny is that I actually perform quite often with my band, and I feel that has helped me very much already. It's not really that I'm scared of the people I'm talking to, it's more like.. when I start talking, I stop thinking about what I'm about to say and start thinking something like "don't go blank don't go blank" and then I go blank..

ok, so just pause, take a breath and continue. think about what you really want to say and say it. think about this: "what's the worst think that can happen?" I mean common, what are they gonna shoot you or something like that? |
