Post subject:  Joining a Fraternity in Uni

If your reading this your probably out of high school or perhaps still in Uni. Or your just a curious person that devours info...You KJ! :P

But now you must be thinking should i join one?

Yeah, you should look into it. Its for all colors of skin. (except for red! we hate red!..j/p) A fraternity is great for creating a social network/family at school. At the beginning of most semester or trimesters Fraternitys and Sororities open up shop with what they call RUSH. This a chaotic time when all fraternities and sororities are scrammbling to get PLEDGES.

How do you become a PLEDGE?

Go to their events. You'll most likely get flyers from the Frat & Sor houses. Meet the brothers there. INTRODUCE yourself to everyone! And make sure you can hold a conversation. (this site should help you out on mastering social skills!). But anywayz if the bros think you would be a cool member of their fraternity...they will give you an invite.

What do i do with the invite? Or what happens now?

Well you can either accept the invite and become a pledge or you can decline it. What happens now is you must come on specfic days of the week. On one of days you will become pledge and recieve a pledge pin.

What the hell is a pledge pin? Whats the story behind the pin?

The pledge pin is something to be worn everytime you are out in the world as a pledge. You only get this removed when pledeging is over. The story about the pin is that if a girl steals it your her bitch till you get it back. If she licks it she owes you a blowjob. If she touchs it your supposed to kiss. And if she rubs it...well i'll leave that to your imagination. These are some of the guidelines behind the pin. Most sorority chicks know this and will toy and tease you. (one of my bros got his stolen twice when we pledged) But it also depends on the fraternity house and what they live by when it comes to pledge pin rules.

What about hazing?

I'm not gonna lie. Some houses do haze. I can only say that if they are hurting you physically then get the hell out of there!

Why should I join then if they do hazing?

Suppose you wanted gold. What if that gold landed on your lap right now! im sure you wouldn't care for it. It just got thrown at you. I bet you would spend all of it like no tommorow. But imagine if you had to work for it. Imagine how happy you would feel when you finally got the gold. You would cherish this moment and make sure you didn't spend all of it.

When you pledge with your "pledge brothers" you go through hell. But this is good hell because without this hell you wouldn't know your brother is a club promoter, loves his cars to death, and loves asian women. This hell that you may get put through actually makes you stronger as a whole with your pledge brothers.

But isn't hazing illegal??

Yea it is. But what about the military and what they do to their new recruits. Arent the drill sargeants hazing their soldiers? But don't they become closer as a UNIT? I rest my case...

So what happens when I'm pledging?

A lot of things happen. You get a big brother. You party really hard. You learn about the fraternity. You meet sorority chicks (Note: some sorority chicks only date Fraternity guys). You learn about your brothers. You may also get a Big Sis. (she can hook u up!) And also at the end of pledging you become a full fledeged brother with your very own letters! ("letters" is an article of clothing given by your Big bro that has your fraternity name) There is a lot more that goes on but don't want to ruin the experience for you...

Do i have to pay to join? Whats the deal with that?

Yeah you do. Nothing in life is free not even the college experience. I know its a shame. Usually when you join the Greek system you have to pay a monthly bill. This can range from $60-$120. Sorority chicks have it the worst, some gotta pay $200 a month.

Why do i gotta pay?

Well when you pay the money maintains the house for the live in and the live outs. The money you pay monthly is also used when you have those big ass $3,000 house parties. (come on who hates parties?) The money also is used when your having your philanthropy event (its basically a very very fun way to volunteer work for the community)

Are there any negatives to being in the greek system? What about benefits?

The only negatives i can remember is that people sterotype you. Yup they look at you with your shiney pledge pin or greek letters and already assume something. They assume that you party all day and screw hella chicks. Some of this is true but not all of it. Like everything in life there is always two sides.

The benefits are: having a big social network, brothers that will take a bullet for you, learning all about alcohol, loving beer pong, mixing drinks, and having an amazing time in college cause you brothers always got something goin on!

So what happens when i become a brother and i'm done with pledging?

That my friend is something you will have to figure out once you've selected a Fraternity or Sorority (if ur a girl) thats right for you. All i can say is the GREEK SYSTEM rocks! And if your wondering what fraternities might be the best then check out my own:

RUSH KAPPA SIGMA!!!!!!!!

You can also check out the show GREEK on ABC Family at 9pm on Monday and ABC at 9pm on Fridays. This show is the journey of a young guy and girl pledging for their fraternity/sorority house. The only negatives of this show is that it is a little sterotypical and a little inaccurate . Its inaccurate because like everything in the media things are down over the top so they can grab audiences for their ratings. Besides that its hilarious!

I agree. Definately go Greek. It has not only raised my resume' status, but also helped me build confidence and opened up my life to many more parties (and since it is your fraternity, you are the king and there is no cockblocking or AMOGing. If you have any questions regarding Greek life and the who/ what/ when/ why/ how's, send me a message and I will happily answer any questions. I just rushed last year and I have gotten so involved I am in the running for Vice President for this coming year. It has honestly changed my life for the better.

Go Greek, Rush TKE!

I love the fraternity.

One of the best results of my joining TKE happened after our formal this past spring. I was, of course, semi-inebriated (rather really, really drunk), but somehow, thanks to some good gaming, I ended up in bed with 3 girls and myself. It may have been the most erotic/ amazing experience of my life. Only 2 of the 3 played ball, but the other was very excited the entire time and seemed like she wanted a piece of everything...

Make sure you do your fraternal research before pledging! You have to make sure you get into the fraternity where you can fit in, or even where you can rule the fraternity.

i want really hot sorority chicks all day everyday will a frat do that for you?? the frats at UT - Austin are pretty expensive (the good ones at least) about $2500-4000 for dues... but I heard it's so worth it and the girls are so hot here!

Most definately worth it... You get so much in return, not to mention a great resume addition.

And in regards to girls, yea. It is much easier... Which isn't good for sarging, but great if you don't feel like working too hard.

I agree with joining a fraternity. It opens you up to a whole new social network of girls. I know so many of them would never kclose a non fraternity guy, much less f-close. Almost all of them date fraternity people, simply because we are exposed to each other so much during drinking/social events.

When I first got to college, I was ready to join a fraternity, because I wanted to meet new people, and make friends.

Man, was I wrong.

Its rediculous how much money you could actually save by NOT joining a fraternity.

Consider this,
-Joining Fees ($500)
-Monthly dues ($120)
-Alcohol / month ($200+)

it's just rediculous the amount of money and resources you spend while in a fraternity, Granted each school and each frat is different, I just don't see how I could become a better person by joining one.

I would rather spend the time, and money on things that I find to be more enthusiastic, such as a car payment on a new car, or new peacocking accessories. idk, everyone is different in their own opinion, and who am I to judge such opinions.

Joining a fraternity was one of the best moves I ever made. When I got to college I did not want to join one, but by second semester freshman year (when we rushed frats) I had become friends with guys in some fraternities and realized how great they are.

Personally, my dues are $400 a semester, $800 every school year. If you have the money definitely invest in joining a fraternity. I went from an introverted, shy, non sociable person in high school to a very sociable, extroverted one. It increased my confidence tremendously.

The social advantages are amazing. There is always something to do every weekend, and you meet so many people. It also brings you incredibly close to your pledge brothers (more so if you were hazed) because you have to learn all about everyone and rely and build trust in them.

I strongly suggest joining a fraternity, it has completely changed my life for the better.

I'm attending college in 08, probably at CU, and I was wondering what sorts of activities you have to participate in once you join and if fraternities are religious or anything - also, what type of people are they looking for/what types of people do they automatically reject?

I know these are a lot of questions that probably sound really dumb, but I really have no clue about fraternities and I would really like to join one. Any answers would be much appreciated- Thanks

The activities that you have to participate in vary from school to school and fraternity to fraternity. There are fraternities that haze you during pledging, and there are those that do not-you will know if the frats at your school do or not just by word of mouth. As for a religious aspect, unless the fraternity is known for a religious background, they are not going to be religious.

The types of guys that they are looking for are ones that get along with and have a good dynamic with most of the brothers. They want guys who are social, outgoing, and fun to be around (don't worry if you aren't all those things, they can be faked at first, and then developed). They will reject guys that don't talk much, guys that they've heard bad things about, and guys that just don't give off the "cool" vibe.

Just be outgoing and talkative, laugh and smile a lot to show you are a fun guy, and if possible, try to become decent friends with at least one of the brothers. If a few guys like you they will back you up when voting on new members. Hope all goes well!
