Ok everybody. Another topic of mine that is not Pick-up related but relates directly to my life. And I love you all so dearly I want you guys to input ideas.
Me and Action! who is also on this forum are seriously considering opening up an outdoor bar. And because most of you seem to haunt various drinking institutions I would like to ask you for anything you think it needs.
Of course, Action and I have most of it all planned out. And a fair idea of exactly what the place will look like. But there is always room for more ideas.
Oh, and you will not get commission for any ideas we pilf. Just invitations to the opening night and access to the VIP lounge :P.

what you could have is a bar with all the bar furniture and decor on the outside...

and on the inside it is decorated like the street with signs and cars etc...

oh, no wait ....

i think i saw that on a movie.... :D

Scotch. Good scotch. I don't know how many bars I've been to in Edmonton where they don't serve good scotch.

And invest in a flair-trained bartender. They're worth it.

Hahaha enigma!
I know how important a good bartender is. I hate going into a bar or club and asking for a cocktail and having them check some list every five seconds to make sure they are making my drink right. I also love when your bartener throws bottles around and generally looks like hes having a ball.

maybe you should stop ordering girls fruity drinks then gia and grow some balls and order a mans drink like a scotch or a fucking beer.... :)

back on topic... i think your question is too generic - specfiy some things first...
what cliental are you aiming?
what demographic?
what environment is the bar in?
what age group?
pub? club?
dance floor focus in the place? relaxing/ conversational focus (couchs etc)?
middle of city?

Yes ming. Beer is my weapon of choice. Although sometimes its nice to pay forty dollars for a colourful fruity drink :P

On topic. If anyone has ever been to Section 8 in Melbourne. It is along those lines. Basically we are only uni students and we want to do things cheap, but still make them look good.
Outdoor, bar in a shipping container with the side cut out, in a carpark. Very industrial style. Probably a bit of graffiti here and there on the walls etc. But have it very versatile, different nights mean different music and stuff like that. There is no outdoor bars down here so it will stand out from the rest.
Just look at section 8 and add more industrial style things, more steel, more varied lighting.
Might sound a little strange on paper but it really works in Melbourne. Ask action about it.

And difference. You know I love you. And you know I WILL get at your milk.

hey gia...

i think i am becoming the type of guy on these forums who is only writing funny shit (atleast I think its funny)........ or atleast inane shit... instead of helpful things. I think i am starting to become disillusioned with the forums repititveness and my interest in pick-up in general......
but this is something best left for another thread...

anyway - i apologise and here are hopefully, something that may be helpful....

the best bars i have been to while travellling have had have had something to pull people in. I love bars with a certain theme. The best one is Belushi's in Covent Garden (London). it has barman who lines up jager bomb shots and light up the bar. But best of all, there were posters ALL over the walls. These were posters of music bands, movies, simpsons.... anything. It was a great talking point and alot of fun!!!...
Sub-story...
it even gave me th eopportunity to come up with an opener of which women had to pick what was their fav poster... I said that dependant on which wall they picked, the posters are set up to define what type of personality they represented - and it went from there....

anyway....
another one was a bar which had timber seats (benchs), timber tables - both had no polish on it, and also had white painted walls (with framed pictures every-so-often as normal) BUT - the bar gave out black markers on request. Anyone could write their names/ thoughts/ messages/ life mottos etc or whatever they wanted on the benches/ tables/ walls...
they would all be sanded off or painted over when needed.
... this being said, it was a travellers bar with heaps of people going through it...

gia - i think it is an inspiration for people to start something from scratch that they can call their own - if it does go ahead...... best of luck dude.... much kudos

Yeah ming about the forums I am probably doing the same thing nowadays. This post is probably a product of it. But still.

The benches Idea I thought was a good idea. From the start because of the graffitti over a few of the containers and objects, just have a wall with some textas, spray paint that people could go wild with.
Ming I think when we make this a reality you will need to come down. Drinks on me :P

I have worked in the restaurant industry for almost a decade now and from what I have learned I can tell you a couple of things.

1. Bars/restaurants = tax writeoffs. Expect to lose money for the first 5 years. IF you last more than 5 it is because you are a hip bastard and you know how to change things up while still remaining the same.

2. Bars run on regulars and thrive off walkins. The people who are there for 8 hours a day on their "off" days are your working capital. Those 21 year old AFC's that come in on friday are your "extra bits". You MUST please your regulars... you want to please the AFCs. That is just the way it is.

3. Get Attractive Bartenders. Male and/or female. I am serious here. You find 4 good, attentive, attractive, people knowing bartenders and your business will triple. Go around to other bars and nightclubs. Find the best bartenders in the city... Buy them away from their current establishment. Odds are if you get them, they will bring clients With them. I know I have followed my chosen bartender before.

I have more but that is plenty for now.

I would say do the ole' Coyote Ugly thing and have a bunch of beautiful women be the bartenders. And have them dance on the bars once every hour. I would go to this bar every night. I love playful bartenders.

And get a mechanical bull. Always a crowd favorite.

And invite me to opening night... I def. want a piece of this action. We can have ourselves a little competition between all the PUAs there. # closes? k-closes? up to you! Haha

People dancing on the bars, Apollo? They'd all get concussion, the bar is in a shipping container :)

I would dearly love to have something similar to a mechanical bull, but with out own flair. Maybe a mechanical bull that looks like it's been stripped down? I'll talk to Giac.

EvoJ, thanks. It's good to get some inuput from someone in the industry.

Here's some pics of Section 8, the bar that's inspired us (and Giac's only heard about it. That was enough to set him off):

I went there at night time, and it was a different SPAM to those daytime photos. Still awesome.
