The Principle of Ease of Execution

I want you to think back to the coolest thing you ever fucking saw. Something that really impressed you, that made your jaw drop. Why was it so cool? Think about the mechanics of it, think about how it occured.

You will find that it was fucking cool because it looked fucking easy.
Gymnasts? When they soar through the air spinning, it looks good because it looks easy, effortless. If you've even seen an awkward gymnast, you'll understand what I mean; an awkward gymnast has far less impact than a relaxed one. Stuff looks good when it looks easy, that's just a rule.

What about the coolest thing you ever heard? The coolest thing you ever felt? The coolest thing someone ever said?

It's all cool because it's apparent that it's all easy. Although effort's involved, the practioner is confident in what he or she is doing. Therefore, it seems easy, nonchalant.

This is the principle of ease of execution. Remember those three words.

To do anything with style, with finesse, it has to seem easy for you.

The trick is, of course, making it seem easy. So what exactly is ease? There's effort involved, in some cases, there's a decision to persue, to commit. But, that doesn't mean it's hard. Ease is confidence; ease is to be RELAXED. Ease is in a way, not really caring whether success is the outcome.

How can we apply this to our interactions?

Relax. Care less.

There are so many ways to do this.

When I was a little younger, I did a sport called tricking. It's like, martial arts mixed with gymnastics and some dance forms and stuff. I still do a little now, but very rarely. Anyway, there was a certain degree of fear involved in the practice and it took me a while to be able to throw out a front somersault on grass. It took me a while to even TRY it on grass. I got over the fear by just throwing myself over onto my back, a little higher, a little harder at a time until I realised that landing on your back and ass wasn't half as bad as I had expected it to be. After that, I had to learn to 'commit' to the move; to throw myself at it, even if I crashed and burned. Finally, I had to understand and expect. that I was going to land the move.

A similar principle can apply in pickup. Scared of rejection? Go get rejected. Learn that it's not so bad. I mean, if you already feel as if you can run a set without rejection, then go for that. Don't do it for the sake of it. But, if it's really terrifying you? Go get rejected, and build up from there. Then, commit to the set and expect to succeed. It can be a long, gradual and painstaking progress but it can also happen pretty quickly. It all depends on your experience, etc.

So, now we don't care about being rejected. We're relaxed, because we're not afraid. However, this is only half the battle towards ease of execution. Just because we're not scared of failing doesn't mean it's easy for us to succeed. It's a step in the right direction, but we're not there yet.

At the end of the day, the only thing that will make something easy for you is if you genuinely believe it is; confidence. This is something that you will gain through experience, external validation and development of inner game, having a balanced and full lifestyle. The phrase 'fake it til you make it' springs to mind here and you will to an extent have to just ACT relaxed and ACT nonchalant, until you develop your game to a point where you actually ARE those things.

So, to recap; for anything to appear stylish, awesome, impressive, blah blah, it has to look EASY.

Easy means CONFIDENT, easy means RELAXED.

To be relaxed, we must not fear failure.

To be confident, we must expect success.

To cease fearing failure, experience it. Get rejected.

To expect success, experience it. Be accepted. Fake it, if you must. Learn how it feels and the patterns that bring it.

When things look easy, they look fun, too. It's very attracted,

Make stuff look easy.

I didn't know relaxing and taking a few deep breathes in set was considered a principle.

Here's a principle you should consider putting in practice, write something useful.

*smirks*

So you kids know, these three articles are my articles.

I asked Sticky to post them for me because my laptop is on the blink.

I would appreciate you withholding your petty judgements from my pivot, especially about things she didn't write.
