It always bothered me because one is grammatically incorrect, the other just sounds wierd.

W/e this really isn't worth posting Second, "an F-close" IS grammatically correct, as you are pronouncing letter as "eff", so by the rules of english, that word starts with an 'e' and thus requires and 'an' in front, not an 'a'.
