Post subject:  Shooting Lay-ups for Social Value

If you’ve been in the game for a while, no doubt you recognize the importance of social value in a club setting or any social setting for that matter. So my question is how do you build your social value? When I was starting in pickup, my wing who was more experienced than me taught me the importance of “shooting lay-ups before the big game.”

He taught me the importance of when I first get to a club or bar to spend the first 30-45 minutes talking to as many people as possible for a few minutes at time. I learned not to talk to the groups with women that I was really interested in, but talk to everyone else. This meant fat chicks, dudes, bouncers, bartenders, anyone in a goal to be seen as social.

I also learned that as much as possible be faced toward my potential targets. If I saw HB 9, I would try and open as many sets facing her set, so that she would be able to observe me being social.

“Shooting lay-ups” got me in a conversational mood for the night. By just making pointless conversation, adding value to people’s night by making people smile and laugh, my social value went up.

Women being the social creatures they are, notice a man who seems to know everyone and is the life of the party. By doing this, when I approached women I really wanted to know, they had already observed me and were wondering, who is this guy that seems to know everyone?
