I get cold sores, whether it be herpes, or from the sun, Im not sure. The thing is, I'll put on abreva and they wont go away for like 1 1/2 weeks. Currently i have a scab on my lip...waiting for it to fall off.

Does anyone have advice on this? What to do? how to hide it? How to get rid of it? How to NOT get it?

Its really a confidence killer.

Go see a fucking doctor! Don't hide this shit if it's herpes, that's just fucked up and you need to find out man. Next you're gonna be saying, "Well...I slept with someone and found out they are HIV positive. How do I keep this from getting around?" You don't conceal shit like this, it's just NOT COOL. You get yourself checked out, if it's just cold sores, then you see if you can get some meds for it, if nothing works, the try looking into herbal medication and different diets and such, because most physical ailments can be fixed just by changing a few things in your life.

Ok...so go to a clinic, cause YOU aren't a doctor and can't tell if it's herpes or not. Herpes is a serious thing man, don't fuck around. Pay out of your pocket if you have to. It's a life long infection; do you want to be responsible for spreading that to other people? I have a good friend that was going out with a girl and she has oral herpes, so she couldn't give oral sex without giving him genital herpes. SERIOUS STUFF!

Having something come off your lip is the very very very least of your problems right now. Don't kiss people, don't go down on people, just get it checked out and to be on the safe side, look up oral herpes and just act as if you have it until you do, that way you don't spread it around if you do.

I don't know how your insurance system works but I don't think you need to be told off more as Rye Lee has said it all.

Find out what it is before you start trying to "do something about it"

I hope I haven't hurt/pissed you off too much Gay, but I've been seeing a LOT of threads lately about guys trying to take shortcuts and not seeming to think through the repercussions of their actions. We can all make excuses for things in life, it is incredibly easy to do, I just want you to make sure that you make this a top priority and do whatever is neccessary to get it checked out by a proper doctor, get the tests done if needed.

I haven't had health care for quite some time and it has cost me a lot of money, but when something needs to be done, it NEEDS to be done, regardless of cost, or effort required. There are always options available if you are willing to put in the effort and this is an imporant matter that needs you attention and not something that you should take the cheap and easy route.

I'll give you an example of something I'm dealing with right now. I've been accepted to college in a city across the country and one significantly closer, back where I grew up, within several hours drive of basically all of my family. It would be much cheaper and easier to move back closer to my family and to a city I've lived in before, but even though I don't know how to afford it, I've made myself the promise to go to the school across the country for various reasons. Now that I've made that promise, regardless of what it takes, if I have to get rid of basically everything I own and hop on a bus with just a few bags, then that's what I'll do, because that's how important this is to me. When you decide to accomplish something, you can do it, you just have to make the decision and not allow yourself to have excuses, only obstacles to overcome.

That's what I thought too, but I'm gonna base my beliefs upon what I was told by someone that has oral herpes. From what I recall (this was 3 years ago or when we discussed this, not something we bring up every day, lol), it isn't readily transmittable, but neither is genital herpes. Basically during an outbreak chances are increased (although it CAN be transmitted while in remission I think the commercials say), having any sort of open wounds or abrassions makes it much more transmittable as well. So, if she had a cut in her mouth, or brushed her teeth too hard and her gums were bleeding, then it was possible, or something to that effect. It's just a risk that they said was highly advised against and that neither of them was willing to take. When in doubt, play it safe right?

Congrats and I think you should give yourself a pat on the back for putting in the effort to go get checked out. It only took a second to make that decision I bet, you were thinking about it and then you made the decision and you decided it was important and had to be done!

This is something you need to recognize man, because this is how basically every decision in life works, whether you mull it over for a while or not, the choice to follow through is a split second one and then you make the commitment not to turn back afterwards. If you keep this in mind, you can use that power to make all sorts of decisions.

You associated tremendous pain with the possibility of having herpes and not getting checked out and what might have happened, the pain you would have in the future and the pain you would cause others, emotionally and physically in both cases. Then you realised that you could get pleasure by finding out whether it was or wasn't herpes and you would relieve tons of stress and feel better about yourself.

This is EXACTLY what Tony Robins talks about in Awaken the Giant Within and how to motivate yourself to accomplish just about anything. You remember those two key things and you'll be able to change any belief, change any behaviour you want to.

NOW, let's talk about that stress, shall we? Part of that stress was probably a result of thinking that it may be herpes and the initial cause could have been stress from something else, or just from some random occurrance; happens all the time and then our mind perpetuates the ailment we believe we have and the stress causes it to worsen and stick around, when it would have naturally cleared up. So, now that you know you're clean, take a deep breath and let all that stress out. Figure out what other stresses may be affecting you and look for ways to relieve yourself of that stress. You'll probably still have to deal with whatever it is that's stressing you, but realise that you have the ability to choose not to be stressed!

I know you can do it and now you know you can do it, so get 'er done!
