Post subject:  Reading people

I've learned a lot of things in my journey towards becoming a PUA. I've been focusing on NLP, psychology and how to read/communicate with people to the fullest.

People are always asking whether the principles that you learn in PUA have any use other places in life and I will tell you every time that they do, cause there is limitless potential to how you can use the skills you build. Right now I'm gonna give you a very solid example though.

I still have 1 bedroom in a 3 bedroom apt that I am trying to rent (contact me if you live in Calgary and are interested in free lessons), so this guy came by tonight to look at the place. Seemed like a good guy from the start, he's in construction, so he has certain characteristics that I expect, such as not being very quick with his words (pretty common, but not saying all trades people are this way, I'm not for instance, nor is my step-father). This guy kept doing small things though, things that 6 months ago, I wouldn't have noticed, such as the way he would look when he was telling stories, the way he would take his time saying something, but when he did say it, it made me want to think of him as a good guy that I'd get along with. But at the same time, I could see that there were things going on in his head, like he was taking note of certain things that I said and filing them away. Not to mention the way that he held the baseball bat that was lying on the floor in the bedroom made me quite uneasy.

I'm quite sure that his intention is to rob me of as much as he can make off with, when he gets the chance. Rent was gonna be $400 for the rest of the month, so he said he had $100 to give me right now, could give me another $200 on monday with an advance from his boss and would have money for next month's rent, of $440 as well. Funny thing, is that he got paid today or yesterday, but he doesn't seem to have the money for rent now.

Before I started paying attention to all the little things that people do, I might have been fooled, or I might have felt uneasy and figured it out, but thanks to what I have learned, there's no way I'm being duped. Thanks for saving me from having some of the most important things in the world stolen from me PUA, cause losing my music collection, my movie/tv collection and my art collection would have destroyed me. :D

Nice, I just hope you were right and he wasn't just a normal guy lol. I am very new to PUA and im still a complete AFC but when I went out last night I saw guys with such bad game that I wouldnt have noticed before I knew any of this stuff. PUA has opened my eyes to a lot of new things.

Lets look at it this way...had Rye been wrong, the worst that could happen is he missed out on a decent roomate...what if Rye was right and hadnt followed his own intuition?

A good friend of mine, a big time lawyer in the city, has a moto..."Assume everyone is a thief and you'll be right the majority of the time."

Sounds negative, however consider this...would you rather assume such, treat them positively and get to know them before trusting them, or would you rather trust them and learn the hard way?

I too have started noticing peoples body language and stuff, for instance if there are multiple lines at a fast food place, i check peoples body language and facial expressions before i pick which line i get in.

When you start reading people in ways where you see they arent in a hurry, may not be friendly, etc it really changes what situations you potentially put yourself in.

I now do this almost without thinking about it.

Just like the cops say: "In God we trust, everyone else gets run through NCIC."

NCIC, for those who don't know, is the National Crime Information Center, it's a huge database that tracks criminals and outstanding warrants.[/url]

You are exactly right, there is so much that is transferable from PUA. I use body language all the time assessing potential tenants for my rental units. It's great, and half the time I don't feel I need to check references, but I make a point of doing it anyway. Being social and having social skills will help you in a job interview, once you get your job and also help you as you apply for promotions. Just as long as you don't get too carried away with all the subtleties or become too obsessive with it you'll be fine. There's never a time when you should stop self improvement, learning about yourself and also the world around you. Things can only get better. Good post!

I have to admit that being able to read people prior to my knowledge of PUA was a great asset. But my interest in getting who ever I want didn't come until a little under a year ago. Had I known about this stuff I would have payed particular attention to the naturals in high school. I can still look about on situations and realize how they implemented the theories of the community to great success. I can now look at people and break down their frame and how they control a group. Best people to look to are any alpha male in your situation.
