From my experience, building rapport is far more important. I have never intentionally tried to break rapport, but from what I've seen in Julien's videos (the guy from RSD) it seems to be some silly things he do just for the sake of being interesting in the beginning of an interaction. If he is doing it in the middle of an interaction, I would guess it's just an attempt to avoid boredome, to make things happen and be more exciting. For instance, you can't just sit at a table and talk all night, unless you have a really interesting conversation. You need to take a break, walk away to the bar or whatever. Just stretch you legs for a while. But for me that is such a natural thing to do anyway, just out of pure self amusement, so I've never thought of it as "breaking rapport". |
