PUA Forum :: Cocky and funny is extremely overrated

I want to tear a hole in a wall when I see guys doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results. A very prominent problem I see from guys in the community is that they fall in love with the concept of being cocky and funny. To them cocky and funny = extreme attraction. In reality being cocky and funny makes you more girl than a girl by playing these weird little games. The thing that annoys me the most about it is that guys refuse to stop using their very erratic interpretations of what it is to be cocky and funny so they keep doing it just because they read somewhere that it will get you girls. If its not working for you then STOP trying to do the same thing over and over again.

Most guys using cocky and funny come of as being either offensive or try hards. You are in fact using behaviors that girls do when they are interested in men, like shit tests and playing hard to get. This is why its so transparent to girls and they get turned off so fast because it is a natural feminine behavior. Example of the type of things I see guys doing:

Guy: Why should I take you out on a date? You take me out
Girl: Excuse me, who says I want to date you?
Guy: I can date any girl I want, you must be blind not to want this

These types of interactions are not going to get you laid, you might as well drop the gimmick and show your natural personality. The reason this is a very ineffective concept imo is because cockiness and overall jerk traits are only effective after a more concrete relationship has developed. On cold approaching you do not want to show these qualities early because 99% of the time they will be interpreted against you. Last thing on this is that guys start viewing text conversations as some type of chess game. They have to have all the most cocky funny responses at all times to get laid, which turns into an unwarranted disaster. I am not going to get much into that.

Problem #2 is that you guys try to use cockiness and humor to portray disinterest. This is such a common mistake because this is what girls do when they like guys. Active disinterest = interest = KILLS attraction. I made a blog post elaborating this concept so go there for clarity. Trying to show disinterest is actually a form of showing interest so it does the same thing. Guys have the problem of being socially unaware that ACTIVE disinterest is not really disinterest, its not that hard to grasp. Real disinterest usually involves VERY minimal amounts of persistence and exerting close to no energy. Busting balls on a girl too much is probably the most common form of active disinterest that I see all the time.

Guys just stop trying to be cocky and funny and stop being so persistent if its not getting you any results. Experiment with DIFFERENT things until you find out what works for you.

Yea sorry, I do cocky funny all the time and it works, but key word "funny" you cant just be a douche. Cocky funny is more of a push/pull kind of thing in my opinion. You push her away with your Cocky-FUNNY remark, then in a humble attitude be like no baby I love you, were supposed to get married and go on a honey moon, then u can push her away again with a cocky line and smirk. More of a way to build attraction and make her invest in you more.

I'd like to know if looks affect the way cocky funny comes out. I feel like men who are rated a 7 or above in looks need to do minimal cocky and funny . Don't other people assume that these men get laid? Therefore, if the attractive person were to use this technique I feel like it would be overkill. Thoughts? I am guilty of this and have come off too arrogant or just did not really need to do it. The girl was basically already assuming my sex life was great, but nope, I went and had to be cocky and funny. It also depends on the girls self-esteem. Girls in high self-esteem are a bit more receptive than girls with low self-esteem.

Have the fun push/pull moment, tell her she smells like trash, but you fucking love garbage cause your mom made you play in it as a kid cause you were poor and had nothing else to do. That is fucking hilarious and you are still being a bit of a little douche but in a cute way.

Telling guys to be cocky and funny is as useless as telling a self conscious guy to be confident. It doesn't work, you can't be something your not and expect to be effective. Anything that makes you take on an eccentric mind set and do weird shit will end up being bad advice. In MY observation, 100% of the guys who read into the whole cocky and funny thing will end up doing a bunch of stupid shit for a VERY long time before they realize that something is wrong.

For the record, most naturals aren't even funny. When a girl likes a guy she will laugh at anything he spews which might make it seem like hes funny. They just know how to convey their cocky personalities at the right times and impose a challenge to women.

Again the concept of cocky funny, david took by observing "real naturals" that are good with women, your community guys are not generally natural, are not good with women(even though the think they are), and are needy/miss calibrated. But to say this does not work is false. Again everything works, is just the person doing the execution. Yeah, agree largely with the replies here. It is important not to focus too much on the cocky side, and more on the funny. I usually do cocky in one of two ways. The two are often linked. Firstly, have any of you ever done a creative writing or literary course? One of the mantras is to 'show not tell'. So instead of saying "I was hungry", you would say "my stomach rumbled and I realised that I hadn't eaten since breakfast" (ok not a great literary line, but you get the idea!!). I tend to have the same mantra with cockiness - don't tell people you're cocky/confident, show them in a roundabout way. Secondly, I like to self depreciate but in a way that I'm obviously joking and actually believe the opposite. So take Reality's opening example "I can date any girl I want, you must be blind not to want this". That's telling the girl you're cocky and comes off as a bit lame. Instead, something like "yeah, you're right, I'm really not a catch at all, you'd probably be better going and chatting to that bloke over there" (and pointing to some nerdy bloke in the corner, and delivered with a sarcastic smile on your face). That shows you're confident and cocky - you know you are a catch and better than the guy you're pointing at really - but you don't come across as too much of a dick. Again, examples aren't necessarily brilliant there, just came up with some lines quickly, but I think the principles of showing confidence not telling and "anti-humility" are good ways to use cocky and funny in a way that doesn't come across as just a bit too much of a jerk.

yes agreed. unless it is a somewhat a natural trait for you cocky funny comes off as douche bag most of the time. The calibration is too fine to use a broad technique or concept. Personally when i try to use it, i normally end up offending, and do much better just relying on my natural personality unhinged and 'self amused'.

You have to do cocky, funny, sexual, humble, self degradation, sarcasm etc... All of those are TOOLS... Nothing to do with looks, women are not like dudes, they look at attractive traits, yes looks is part of those traits but a small part, they look at how you act and behave, the whole package, an ugly guy(me) can become attractive by displaying attractive qualities, humor is a very attractive quality, to be funny, you have to be smart( Witt is attractive), cocky (comes across as confidence), so the combination is lethal, IF YOU DO IT RIGHT/CALIBRATED... if you read a book or do this as a gimmick it will not work...

I like this point but I disagree to some extent, about every natural I know that has his game charisma based is funny... some naturals that play a more numbers orientated game on the other hand you are right. Guys that get a large portion of the women they go after are funny guys who know how to escalate, but some naturals that are more of I'll just keep trying until I find a yes aren't really that funny. I think you're placing a lump some together and the truth is while I have my favorite type of naturals out there, a good natural that is truly good with women is funny, he knows how to make a woman laugh and not because she is attracted. David D. double you dating got a lot of people results. Problem is some people are just bad no matter what cause they lack calibration and they are needy as fuck... Again, is up to the person doing the execution...
