| Post subject: | THE FUNNIEST FIELD REPORT EVER! :) |
Before I start about the field report, I should explain to you why i did what i did . A couple of days ago, I was watching Style's Annihilation seminar and rasputin, who was one of the guest speakers, was telling, "You will always learn in the extreme. So do things that are extreme. Push the social dynamic to a point where it is uncomfortable and then make it comfortable. " So what he suggested was, "to go to the streets with your finger stuck in your nose and start talking to people." Now, I was fascinated by this concept and I went yesterday to do just that. So this is the field report about what happened when I opened close to 30 sets containing women, men, saleswomen, taxi drivers and at a point, a POLICEMAN! First, I prepared myself psychologically to do what I was about to do because personally my sticking point is the approach itself, and i have been socially trained to NOT do this kind of shit. So after preparing myself, I opened the first person who I saw walking towards me. I immediately stuck my finger up my nose and went, "Hey, where is XYZ bank??" this guy, who couldn't control his laughter, started looking away and smiling and shit.. and then with a broken voice he just says, "I don't know.." and abruptly turns away. He was walking away laughing. And seeing him laugh, made me laugh! So I thought, "Hey, this is fun! After a couple of other sets, which all contained looking away and them being all uncomfortable, I opened a saleswoman of a store.. "Hey, excuse me, can you please tell me where XYZ bank is?" Now this woman, looks at me like what the ***k i'm doing for a second and then she looks away, points to a direction and says, "It's to that direction". I said thanks and then walked away.. I just turned back to see what she was doing and she was giggling over there! Opening the Taxi driver was hysterical. He was parked in front of a theater. I went upto him (with my finger in my nose of course) and said, "Hey, how is this movie?" I swear to god he was thinking, "Where the f**k is this nut case coming from?!" He replied it was okay or something and I left. After a couple more other sets, I opened the policeman. Now I thought this guy would ask me why I have my finger up my nose or something because policemen don't have to be afraid of anything. But this dude appeared more uncomfortable than all the others and his voice started breaking and he looked really flustered! And that is when I realised, not only was I comfortable pushing the social dynamic, I was HAVING FUN with it!! Anyways what followed was more opening sets but this time with a motorcycle helmet on my head and a pair of sunglasses which where too big for my face on my eyes and my finger in my nose! People were laughing at me when I was walking and I did NOT GIVE A F**K! I even opened an HB8, told her she was cute. She blew me off ofcourse. But the objective was accomplished. I got rid of my Approach Anxiety. And I realised how fun sarging really is! Cheers to all! |

I have to give you a pat on the back for that one. Great field work and great report. If you could do this, any less amped up approach should be cake for you. Now what would be really cool is to see if you could push the envelope by approaching with you finger in your nose and then number closing. Wanna give it a try?? |
