Post subject:  FR: Weekend Coffee Date #1 - Saturday

I agree to meet my date, Emily, at a Tim Horton’s near my place. Tim Horton’s is the Starbucks of Canada. I chose one near my place so that I can transition to my place if things heat up. I arrive 5 minutes before we’re scheduled to meet. She isn’t there. I order a tea and sit in a booth where I can watch the entrances. I sit and wait. Five minutes pass, ten minutes pass, and finally at fifteen minutes she arrives. During the wait I had this feeling of anxiety, and when she arrived I had this sudden rush of relief. This is something I have to remember for the future.

She looks around, spots me, comes over and immediately apologizes. I tell her it’s OK. I tell her she should get something to drink. She grabs herself a medium coffee. She comes back and sits across from me. We begin the conversation by talking about why she was late.

She was late because she got caught up shopping. I ask her what she was shopping for. She says, “Clothes.” I ask her what kind of clothes. She says, “Back to school clothes.” I begin to ask her if she’s a leader or a follower when it comes to fashion trends. She naturally says, “I’m a leader.” We begin discussing fashion and the top designers. She’s impressed by my fashion knowledge.

When the fashion conversation begins to die down we transition to discussing her passions in life (I know Hypnotica says that people don’t talk this way, but I do). She mentions travel. I ask her, “If you could be anywhere this moment where would you go?” She says, “Fiji.” I ask, “Why?” She says, “Because it’s a beautiful exotic island.” The conversation continues on this basic level for another ten minutes.

I’m almost done my tea. I start to panic about how to phase shift from comfort to seduction, and then back to my place.

My mind goes blank. I have no idea what to do. I don’t want to fuck up and decide to ask if she would like to go for a walk. She says, “I’d like to, but I have to get going.” I say, “Yes, me too.” I have no idea why I said something stupid like that. I assume I didn’t want to sound needy. We stand up, I give her a kiss on the cheek and tell her that we should meet again. She agrees.

I doubt we’ll meet again.

It didn’t go the way I planned, but this experience did improve my game.

I will post my second coffee date tomorrow. It went ten times better than this one.
