Yea, I fucked up the other night at the bar. Here is the situation, my target was this blonde chick that i noticed earlier in the night who had a shitload of dudes trying to hit on her and i could tell that they were failing. So, I waited awhile for a good opportunity to approach, and decided to go for it when she was near the bar with her friends (2 guys and 2 other chicks). I thought the best strategy would be to come in way under the radar because i had already seen her blow off those other dudes. I went up to the bar and ordered a drink and then started talking to one of her guy friends who was standing beside me hoping to use him as a way into the group without making my intentions clear to everyone from the start After a couple minutes of conversation.... Dude: My name is Adam. Me: Name's Fattie. Dude: Is that your real name? Me: No, but its what i go by. Dude: What's your real name then? Me: (laughing) It doesn't matter, its what everyone calls me. Are these your friends? (Dude nods). Introduce me. Dude: Not until you give me your real name. I don't do favours for people who don't give me there real name.... Me: (to the rest of the group) Alright, if this guy won't introduce me, I'll do it myself. Keep in mind this is all said like we're just joking around and having a good time, its not like i'm being an ass or anything. I get everyones names and shake their hands, and we all talk for a little bit. But, then the first dude starts going off about my name again, and we get into sort of like an arguement about it. Again, its all like its a joke but it is totally killing the group vibe, and then the chick i was interested in turns her back to us and starts talking one-on-one with the other guy in the group. I noticed that she didn't seem very interested in me anymore and decided to eject from the set, but i had every intention on approaching her again later when she was by herself. So here is what i need to work on: 1) do a better job of getting around obstacles (didn't disable the dude good enough) 2) control the group discussion better (lost the discussion to the dude talking about my name) 3) when i decide to come back to the target later, i should follow through with it rather than get distracted by something else (i never did approach that chick again) All and all i thought i did alright, considering how new i am to this whole thing, and even though i didn't close, i think i got a lot of good experience and now have some solid aspects of my game i can focus on improving. If anyone has any tips/advice on any of this, it would be appreciated. |

Yup, better rapport with the dude would have been nice. You did the right thing going into the set via the guys. |

To be honest man, seems like you should have just introduced with your real name. She might have seen it as stubborn, unfriendly, or dishonest. Not say you are any of those, but to a group of strangers it could be, especially when you were trying to disarm the guy. I know it's all fun and games introducing yourself by a nickname, hell I introduce my self as "the guy from Knocked Up (Seth Rogen) sometime, because we look alike. |

Yea i see what your saying man, i thought about that afterwards as well. But, i honestly don't think that was the problem. Like i said, it was sort of all a joke at first, it was just that this dude wouldn't leave it alone. I've introduced myself a lot as Fattie, and usually the reponse i get is: "Fattie?" with a puzzled look and then I laugh it off and continue on. I think that the main thing that i really need to learn how to do, is how to tell a dude to basically shut the fuck up and let me talk to the pretty lady, but without being an asshole and start a fight. Its my understanding that i want the chick's friends to like me, right?, but i also need to be able to get the guy off my back a little.
I know it's all fun and games introducing yourself by a nickname, hell I introduce my self as "the guy from Knocked Up (Seth Rogen) sometime, because we look alike. |
